This is a warning for DIY homeowners. Zodiac recommends Weld-On 724 CPVC Gray for use on this $43.00 check valve. 724 CPVC comes in quart cans for $30.00. It would take less than an ounce to secure both ends of this check valve. 724CPVC is industrial strength solvent because of Chlorine in pool water and perhaps a little hydrochloric acid. Carlon Low VOC Gray PVC made by Oatey is not recommended and while Oatey EP42 should also work price is equally as high if not more than 724 CPVC and its not sold at Home Depot. Failed after two months This valve lasted only two months before the spring and hinge pin corroded and the valve failed. It was installed between my filter and automatic chlorinator. Jandy/Zodiac refused to provide parts under their one year warranty claiming that my water chemistry was to blame even though it is normal. They wanted me to hire a professional to confirm proper installation and water chemistry. Find another manufacturer that stands by their products.
Not Happy with this Valve...Metal Rusted! Yes it looks like the real thing, but after 8 - 9 months of running it, the spring that flaps the valve shut RUSTED out. Of course it will rust in chlorinated water which is why a REAL JANDY Valve would or should have stainless steel springs. . . so they won't rust. This makes me think this was a knock off valve and not OEM. The valve still opens fine, it just doesn't stop the back flow. (i.e. doesn't do the job!)
perfect! Metal parts are stainless steel, so unless you're installing this right next to a tablet chlorinator(salt chlorine generator is ok) where the chlorine hockey pucks expose the parts to extreme amounts of concentrated chlorine when the pump is off, you'll be fine. Just remove the cover, glue in place making sure not to expose the center portion to any glue(thereby ruining the sealing surfaces where the flapper touches) and tighten the cover back up JUST LIGHTLY(the o-ring is the sealing mechanism of the cover, not the... read more
(was) Working well on my pool.. 2 years later failed. I was installing a new auto chlorinator for my pool, but noticed there was no check valve installed up stream by the previous owner. Since I was already going to be re-plumbing, I decided to rectify this deficiency. The see through cover really is nice to easily observe the operation without having to disassemble anything. Edit: After 2 years, both the spring mechanism and the metal bar it connects to have rusted through. Review adjusted to 1 stars. The replacement part n... read more
