My partner and I were looking forward to our first time dining at Joey Newport Beach. We had a reservation, enjoyed some champagne while waiting, and were promptly seated. Unfortunately, the experience stalled from there. We sat at our table for 20 minutes without being greeted by a server. Everything was great except the noise level. It was extremely loud and conversation was difficult. Why the background “music “where all you can hear is boom, boom, boom is needed, beats me!
Service was slow and sloppy. Hostess greeting was rude, no champagne on welcome, did not know they just sat the rest of our party. Had a high table when a high chair was requested. 10 minutes for drinks to be served, no water refills, timing of the whole meal. No clearing of tables unless we handed a plate to the server or runner.
My reservation was at 10:45 , I came in around 10:32 to check in . It literally took 10 mins to get checked in because one of the dark hair host kept skipping past me even though I was clearly next . The whole process is unorganized . Everyone is crowded around instead of making one line and they need to have ppl pour glasses instead of the host because that was holding up the line . The hostess/server was very nice for welcoming us for our first time and our daughter’s birthday. The welcome champagne was nice touch. For the price point I expected more. Our appetizer came before our drinks, our refills were extremely delayed and we needed to constantly ask to keep our sodas filled. We needed to ask for straws for our non-water drinks. The food was not amazing, but fine. For a high price point I expected at least good service or amazing food and I didn’t feel like I got either.
The vibe is energetic. Food is tasty and delicious! The service is good. Drinks are really good too! But you pay for it, this is a very pricey. After 7:00 pm the crowd started getting too loud and too close to our table, it went from nice dining experience to something more like eating at an overcrowded bar. 🤷🏻♂️ Glasses and bottles were being dropped regularly… literally.
