The waitress broke and entire tray of our champagne glasses on the ground next to us and glass came flying at us and the table next to us. We had dirty plate sitting on the table when they brought our entrees. It was impossible to even get drinks, water or place an order. For how busy it was there were not enough people there helping or serving. I’ve always had issues w the service there. The bottle of champagne should have been completely taken off the bill considering we had flying glass coming at us.
We love Joey Newport Beach; however, on our latest visit, we felt rushed. From the time we sat down, the server didn't allow us to visit and came back several times to take our order. We were celebrating my husband's birthday, and told the server we wanted to visit, but we still felt rushed.
Very disappointed been at Joey‘s in the past and had great service and had a great time. The food was amazing as always we were sat out on the patio area. There was a large group by the bar that was so loud that we could hear it over by our table. It was hard to hear. We had to talk very loud just to hear each other. Reservation was at 7:00PM, was seated at 8:20PM. Ordered immediately, food arrived at 9:00PM. Food was great, but not worth the wait.
For the first time, I’ve scored Joey’s below 5. My score reflects our unfortunate experience with the hostess. We checked in 5-10 minutes before our reservation. Someone went to seat us, but another party was already at the table. We were told another table was being cleaned. After 10 minutes my husband tried to explain the situation to the hostess, she said again a table was being cleaned. Service was very rude and abrupt. Was not even offered desert. She barely offered us another drink. She gave me dirty looks when communicating with me. As far as the quality of food, that was very good as always! I always enjoy my drinks and food from joy! We had a great night despite the rude service but that can be improved for this particular waitress.
I’ve visited Joey’s in Newport Beach three times now, mainly because the food keeps me coming back. As a pescetarian, I usually order salmon or other fish dishes, and they’ve consistently been cooked to perfection—truly the highlight of the experience.
