Lost a pup during a c-sectiOn. Not sure why we needed to get X-rays on a mom in labor who delivered one already. This caused a lost pup. Poor judgment on vet. Only cost me $3500. The value of that pup including tears and sadness to go along with it. Can't help but think there's more they could have done for that pup. Yeah it's time consuming to resesatate a pup, but that's your job. Otherwise it went well for the other pup who lived, and the 2nd pup that was born in the car. *** identify: The young blond girl with the whi... read more

Cat is having accidents outside litter box and having blood in urine. $1,000 for the recommended diagnostic testing?! No thanks, let's try antibiotics and then go from there because then it's obviously crystals which then the treatment would be either prescription diet or surgery. Okay, let's try prescription food since antibiotics only helped a bit. No, the doctor won't prescribe food that could help treat my cat, still recommends the $1,000 diagnostic testing. During this time when people are not working I would hope that ... read more

Rips off Pet Parents. I called Pleasanton Veterinary Hospital, they convinced me to come in because of a "Free" first vet visit. I saw Dr. Michael Engelsgjerd. He handled my very fussy dog, and was very knowledgable about her issues. Something tipped me off when he pointed at the canine teeth cleaning chart and informed me that my dog needed this. Like a snake car repair shop they default to something you don't need and try to charge you for it. During the examination he said he would be taking some blood tests. I consen... read more

Note: Pleasanton Veterinary Hospital was sold by Dr. Scharge (he retired) to some corporation. Ignore all reviews prior to 2017 because the entire staff is new except Beth at the front desk. Dr. Scharge did not tell anyone he retired so that the corporation that bought his practice could install new vets without losing customers (and keep the 5 star Yelp ratings.) Dr. Scharge always worked with other vets that came and went, so it took me a while to realize that this business had changed hands. Slimy on all parts (that h... read more

Please take your animal somewhere they'll be better cared for. I used this facility for several years and had an "ok" experience. My 11 year old cat had been acting strangely, lethargic, hid in the closet for three days..so I brought him in. They recommended a senior blood panel and after an exam, removal of several teeth. They said he was in otherwise good health. We proceeded with the extractions, which went as expected (although the cost was far outside of the initial estimate range). I administered the follow up me... read more

We have been coming to PVH on and off for the past 5 years with out dog and two cats. The level of care is adequate and no issues on that front, though in general it's been a bit more hit/miss lately. Main issue is their estimates and cost models are completely out of whack. You will pay a premium for standard visits, checkups, labs and shots and an even higher premiums for less standard tests and labs... I can live with this. Vets seem to always go overboard on recommended tests and for past 3 visits have grossly gone over ... read more

The hospital is currently undergoing a corporate takeover and my family was very negatively impacted by the amount of stress it has caused Dr. Godfrey. After receiving a very inappropriate voice-mail from the doctor, I followed up the office manager immediately. Which to no resolve ended up feeling like a waste of my time. We lost our family pet of eleven years through absolutely no fault of the clinic. However she did pass and my last memory of her passing is that of an argumentative, dismissive, unapologetic, self-righte... read more

I drove a gravely ill dog that was carried into the Pleasanton Veterinary Hospital after being advised by one of the Human Societies to go there. The Humane Society told me not to call because they will probably turn me away. She said to just walk in and tell them it is an emergency and present the dog. The dog is not mine, I was only the driver doing this young and scared teenager a favor. The Humane Society advised me to ask the Pleasanton Veterinary Hospital to contact the Paws In Need Fund and they could assist in ge... read more

We took our animals here for years. We always felt that we were being "sold" services. It was always a high pressure sales environment but we continued going. We were told that our dog had a heart murmur but that it was nothing to worry about. He stopped chewing bones, his jaw muscles were atrophying and he was prematurely grey. For years the PAH vets continued to tell us that his murmur was nothing to worry about. One day he collapsed while chasing a ball in the yard. He was seven years old. Since PAH was closed and ... read more
