My chimney was cleaned by Potomac services and they did a great job. They were on time, clean and very organized. They spent a good amount of time making sure that all of the soot was removed and that my chimney would be ready for the upcoming winter. They cleaned up after themselves so well that I could not tell that they had even stopped by. I am actually going to use them to clean my AC ducts next. I had my chimney cleaned.
We called on Friday afternoon, they had Monday at 8 AM opened. The tech arrived on time, he was concerned that the noise of the equipment might scare our rabbit who was in a pen in the back of the town house. We moved bunny into an indoor cage. Over the next 4 hours he was all through the house, but was not intrusive. He finished up timely stopping only to show me the inside of the main intake vent before he started so I could compare it to the finished vent. Jeff was very responsive on the phone and called when he said he would. He arrived on time and was very friendly. He got right to work and was done within about half an hour. Because there was so much lint in the vents, he wanted to check the output from the dryer to make sure there wasn't more lint trapped there. He listened to our concerns about pulling out the dryer and wrapped up in a few minutes. Jeff inspected and cleaned out my dryer vents.
Jeff Peterson, the owner, personally performed the service. While other companies I surveyed indicated that they would do the job in 2 hours, Jeff took 4.5 hours to do an incredibly meticulous and careful cleaning of the intake and output air ducts and furnace. He took special care to avoid getting dirt from the ducts into the house since I told him that I was highly asthmatic. They came and inspected the chimney and charged me about $150.00 that was the April 15 th week. I have yet to hear from them about the quote, inspite of calling them and leaving multiple messages. This the first time I am using Angie's List and I am disappointed. I have always used Service magic (home advisor). They have not even given the estimate. It is more than 2 weeks. I have called multiple times.

I called them to look at a leaking chimney, the person who came out seemed more interested in replacing the gas fireplaces I just hired someone else to install 2 months ago. He didn’t seem that knowledgeable and kept calling his boss for assistance/guidance. By the end I just wanted him out of the house. Water leaking into chimney
County inspector Failed the whole thing. He could find nothing right about it. The list would be for too long. He told me basically to start over. Install a fireplace and framing
In my opinion, today's experience with Potomac Services was incredibly disappointing. We brought them in to our home because we needed to have two chimneys cleaned. After the crew inspected our wood stoves, they informed us that they could not sweep the chimneys because "they are not code compliant" and told us we would have to purchase numerous upgrades (for many thousands of dollars) before they would sweep the chimneys. Sir, I appreciate your perspective on the matter. However, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Code 211: Standard for Chimneys, Fireplaces, Vents, and Solid Fuel-Burning Appliances and the stove manufacturer BOTH require the wood stove inserts be separately lined. This is a LEGALLY required safety standard. Its NOT an option to install or use a wood insert without a liner! There are several reasons for this.
