My stay at River Oaks was a joke… I only saw a therapist 6 times for about 20 minutes each time in 60 days. The website says they have things like massage therapy and bio sound therapy and they do not. They pack up to 50+ men in a group at a time and it really didn’t help. There were all kinds of distractions there that kept me from really working on my self and my problems. I was disappointed that I was transferred to PHP after only ten days. I only saw my therapist once. So not sure how it was deemed appropriate for me to move to PHP. I was not told anything about paying 50.00 a day room and board. I don’t have any money. I was told I could do long term treatment of 90 days, that wasn’t true. I was told I could only stay in treatment for 33 days and if I stayed longer I would have to pay for my treatment out of pocket. The environment was extremely toxic and unsafe. My therapist Christine was amazing .. she truly understood me. There needs to be more food options other than chicken ... the staff tries, there are always going to be problems no matter where you go.
I have mixed feelings about RO. There were some great people working there. Jennifer who taught yoga and fitness was always there to listen with sound advice and I shoulder to lean on. On the othe hand there were staff that made comments and gestures that were beyond inappropriate. One counselor in particular made me very uncomfortable. Although most staff care. There is a great deal of inconsistencies. There is a huge lack of communication between therapists, TAs and nursing. The food choices are very limited and the house keepers are very short staffed. My therapist Cami was amazing and a huge help for me. The other stressors make it hard to focus.

I want to first start out by saying to the therapists especially Ian and Christine were awesome!! I couldn\'t of done it without them. EMDR/DBT was the best thing for my recovery and I recommend it to all incoming patients. I was blown away and felt like I mattered when the staff, TAs, and Nurses would always greet me by my name. I don\'t know how they do it, remembering everyone\'s name, but hats off to them. River Oaks is dedicated to delivering an effective treatment in a safe environment. The website describes this place as a retreat like facility, when in reality its not. The staff is ridiculous, the food was worse than high school cafeteria food, they mention things online that are just not true. Then they get you to commit to 30 days or 60 or 90, but fail to mention that you can do a 2 week detox program, and get home to your kids or family, bc some people cant stay gone that long, or some people arent that bad off but they treat you as if your the worst addict in the world, when everybody is not the same.... read more
