Due to the online solar company practices, Solar Optimum in particular, I've decided to go elsewhere. These people are unscrupulous. They require contract signing and a $1000 deposit before doing an on site evaluation which they said would cost them two or three hundred dollars. If then they say expensive additional work like moving the breaker panel or replacement or some upgrade that would require great expense to meet current building codes that are different from when the home was built in 1968 and I decide not to go ahe... read more
Panels and Tesla Powerwall installed in Oct 2024. Took longer than expected with poor communication between city and Solar Optimum. I had to get involved to bridge the gap and keep project moving forward. Finally got everything installed and PTO (permission to operate) from Duke Energy. Installer got me to download the Tesla app to be able to track energy created, used by house, sent to grid. This is where the problems start. App reports energy being created, almost nothing used, so almost everything going to the grid. Obvi... read more
They sent their estimate promptly, and it looked good. I responded asking for a revised quote with a single change and they ignored it and wanted to get me on the phone instead, despite my profile clearly set as e-mail only. If a company lacks attention to detail and can't respond correctly to a one-sentence e-mail then it's unlikely the process with them is going to go well moving forward.
I had signed up for a solar system install and paid my deposit, and up until that point the communication was amazing. We ran into a snag with my roof needing to be modified slightly to accommodate the panels and they told me they'd get me an updated quote asap but only the part of the roof with the panels would be affected. This was on Jan 13. On Jan 27 I finally got the quote (after I kept emailing them) and was told I'd actually need to replace the full roof to install the panels. This had not been discussed before, and ... read more
Business response:
Thank you for selecting Solar Optimum for your solar and battery project. We pride ourselves greatly on our service, product, pricing and warranty. We'll be sure to give special props to Mason, your consultant.
This is the 3rd time getting solar. They talk a good game and offer a good price. But, at the end of the day. They can not truly offer what they said. They had me at 40 panels on one side of the house. Then, when they came back it was 30 panels on one side and 5 panels below that would only product 60%. Then, we had round 2. They had me 30 panels, and they pull the permits to install. Come installatiin day, they missed measured and we where now at 25 panels on one side and 5 infront of the house. Which once again the 5 panel... read more
An update to a previous review: Solar Optimum has spent a considerable amount of time trying to get me to remove my review on this and other sites (which by the way they do for anyone who posts less than a stellar review on any review site). I wish I would have gotten this much attention when things were in the install phase. I wouldn't be here writing this review. As you read positive reviews you should keep in mind there is an unknown number of removed negative reviews about Solar Optimum. They have gone as far to use ma... read more
We wish we would have never chosen Solar Optimum for our solar needs. We now wish we never had solar installed. Unfortunately we were mislead by this company's employee's. Every person we dealt with at this company either: lied, gave us the run around, or was so disrespectful it pushed me to consult with an attorney for future retaining needs. They caused so much emotional and physical distress that they even offered to refund me 1,000.00. That was just one more lie as well. Low and behold after they read my yelp review we ... read more
I'm a middle-aged homeowner, with Electrical Engineering Degree, and started my own Insurance and Financial Services Agency. I know a thing or two about electricity and consumer service... Hopefully, this one (of a handful of products) review can be helpful. I initially researched PV (solar energy) systems in 2015, from: 1. CompleteSolar ($21.7k/5.13kW=$4.34/W), 2. CleanSolar ($17.6/3.92kW=$4.49/W & $21.6k/3.84kW=$5.63/W), 3. SolarCity (poor response, no quote; acquired by Tesla in 2016), and 4. SunRun ($31.4k/3.92kW=$8.01... read more
