Installation process was ok, but I was promised by the salesman (Erik) that I will get a match for the rebate Panasonic was offering. Even after 5 months, the rebate that was promised before I signed the contract was not honored. He kept telling me that it has to be approved by CFO. Not sure how they will honor your panels for 30 years when they can’t honor $250 rebate matching.

I was really looking forward to start using solar energy and chose Solar Optimum as the partner on this journey. The decision was partly based on their large number of positive reviews. However, this has been the worst experience - after over 5 months from the initial discussion, the installation is still not completed! Customer service and satisfaction are NOT their priorities, and they take no responsibility for any shortcomings at all. It started out with the long wait for getting the permit approval. I had to initiate c... read more

I requested a quote for a specific set of solar panels and inverters from Solar Optimum. Ryan Howe responded saying that he would check with his ordering team and get back to me. After 3 days of being put off, I ended up emailing Ryan Howe telling him that there was no need to proceed. 3 days of not having an answer on a quote request may be acceptable to Solar Optimum, Ryan Howe, and some customers but not to me. How long would it take for Solar Optimum or Ryan Howe to respond to a service request..? I'm not about to find o... read more

This interaction with Solar Optimum says it all: "My name is Mark Howe, Sales Director of California for Solar Optimum. I understand that we had a small hiccup with your project and I would love to discuss and hopefully resolve to advance your project." My response: "Hi Mark, no need for discussion. The project has been canceled. Our roof was left open and the project was delayed by three days as a result of not getting footings installed in time. Luckily our roofer has been flexible with timing, however I have no desire ... read more

Business response:

As you know your project was at the beginning stages and had not even gone through permitting. You signed your contract at the end of October, and have rushed us constantly to complete your project . We completed a site assessment on October 30th and reviewed it quickly in an attempt to accommodate you. However, you decided to cancel the project once we relayed pertinent information specific to your project because you wanted everything to fit around your roofing schedule. While we try to meet the needs and requests of our a... read more

I just got off the phone with a representative named Daniel Rollins. He immediately started pressuring me to make a decision without even coming out to our house to do a site visit to assess our solar and other electrical needs and was only quoting from the quote sent via EnergySage. He said it costs too much time and money to conduct site visits and can do all of the assessments via photos and information provided. The company would only send someone to do a site visit once an agreement was signed. Offered to answer the man... read more

Business response:

Hi Heather, Thank you for your valuable feedback. We are always looking for ways to improve our customer experience. Since this post, I know you have been speaking with Marc and even though you are not planning on going solar this year, we hope that your experience with Solar Optimum has improved from your initial interactions with us. If you have any questions or concerns, please send us a message to: marketing@solaroptimum.com.

I really wanted to work with these guys based on their reviews here. The bid submitted via Energy Sage looked great! A bit higher, but fair price, 103% of power promised, responsive sales guy. When I spoke with them, they then suggested I increase my system to 130%. Great! I was stoked! Everything went dramatically downhill after that. They sent me a revised bid, offering only 49% coverage even with the extra panels. What really irked me was that the bid had a picture of large tree blocking part of my roof, but that tree ha... read more

Business response:

Mr. Osder, we would have liked to work with you as well. It is our policy to have an agreement prior to conducting a detailed and costly site assessment. The satellite imagery from the software we use is great for giving us proposals, but as evidenced in your case, it is not always able to give us the most accurate information. Therefore once a commitment is received, we conduct an in-person site assessment to get the measurements and shade reports specific to your home. While some companies may be willing to conduct a site ... read more

After we selected Solar Optimum through the EnergySage marketplace, we worked with sales person to get contract and financing done. All good. Then the guy came out and when the plans for our system were delivered, the project was designed to deliver 74% of our historic need as opposed to the 100% that was initially promised. When we called - multiple times - to get more information on this, no one ever called us back. We are now starting the process all over

Business response:

Hi Jill, Thank you for your valuable feedback. We understand that discrepancies may exist between the production estimate of the proposal versus the design we create after doing an in-person shade analysis. Since the satellite imagery has specific limitations (in your case, it didn’t account for the shade of the trees), the reason for our shade analysis is to provide you with accurate information where you can base your decision. We were able to get our design to cover up to 90% of your previous consumption. We would be glad... read more

If there were a 0 star rating, I would certainly consider it. Very disappointed by salesman George and the company he represents - Solar Optimum. I saw salesman George less than 2 weeks ago for a solar with battery purchase quote on my roof. Waited 2-3 days but no quote. Then I contacted Ashley via email (she was very helpful), who got in touch with George and I finally got my quote that evening. The last week has been a real struggle to say the least. It went back and forth with George who left out the battery on my origina... read more

Business response:

We are sorry to hear that you feel that way. For us as a veteran in this industry for over 10 years, it isn’t only about profit, which we proved to you when we sent our top sales rep, top engineer, our VP of Sales, to your home to assess the efficacy of installing a system for you. As a result and unfortunately, it was determined that we're unable to confidently underwrite a project with the 25-year comprehensive warranties that we provide because you currently have multiple existing-unpermitted code violations that would ne... read more
