I have faith that my solar installation was done correctly, that the inspectors, contractors, and installers did a good job, and that the quality of the product Solar Optimum provided is where it should be . Solar Optimum gave me a contract price so I signed up with them to qualify for NEM2. Then they came up with this roof reinforcement that was necessary for before installing the system on my roof. They have a roofing division that does roof related work. Other contractors were able to install without any roof modifications. The contract price with this change went up by roughly 50%. After talking and comparing quotes from multiple solar companies. I signed contract with Solar Optimum to install solar panels.Their prices were competitive, and the customer service was top-notch and I'm happy with the whole experience. Not sure how are people providing the raving reviews. My experience so far has been much less than satisfactory. Almost ten days have gone by and Mason hasn't been able to address why there are SIGNIFICANT production discrepancies: (i) their 400w Panasonic panels are quite expensive but being quoted to produce less than that of 360w ☹; and (ii) per quotes, their same size “Cadillac” system will be producing much less than that of others. I spoke with my dedicated sales rep and he inspired 0% confidence in working with Solar Optimum. He couldn't answer questions with precision. I think I might have known more about the solar installation process and contracts than him. When he mentioned problems with subcontractors who will be installing the panels, it was a red flag for problems to come. They also wouldn't entertain any negotiating on their prices. After the inspection they increased the quote by about 30% citing the roof has a higher slope which would trigger a 30% extra charge. None of the other companies asked for this charge.
Wonder why Solar Optimum has so many positive reviews? It's because they offer a $500 "referral fee" for positive reviews. This is in the contract I signed. Not in the contract, it turns out, was a verbal promise that half of my $500 deposit would be returned if I did not agree to cost increases after the initial site inspection. While other companies require a deposit prior to the site visit, most companies will return all of the deposit if the site visit results in additional costs. I selected Solar Optimum because they had a slightly lower price than the next quote, but once I spent my time scheduling a call and sending them documentation, the price went up 20 cents per watt, to where they weren't actually the lowest bidder, and they wouldn't honor their bid price. With all the good reviews and there awards I thought going with Solor Optimum was the best choice. Well as of right now I regret my choice. Been nothing but a headache. I was dealing with Cory and he was pretty good at answering questions. But after I signed contract not so good. Nor was anyone else. Nobody returns phone calls or emails. When they want something from me I get emails after email and tons of phone calls. They don't seem to have a scheduler as I get a phone call well be there tomorrow.
