I've heard great things about Saltlik, and I am very impressed with the restaurant! We had a cosy booth spot, the food and service was great!
Nice atmosphere and great energy, the restaurant was already busy at 7pm on Friday. It took some time for us to be acknowledged by wait staff, a non-server took our drink order and they were delivered shortly thereafter. My husband ordered the 'gimlet' which was very good, we will be back for these! His meal offer from the 'Big Taste' menu was salad, steak and baked potatoes with a nice toffee/cake desert. I generally like Saltlik. This time not so much. A few service issues and a good but not outstanding meal made for an average night out.
We took advantage of the 3 course, $25 lunch course during the Big Taste. The ceasar salad was good, slightly overdressed and a bit salty but good flavor. We each had a steak sandwhich, I ordered mine medium rare and it came out closer to blue-rare however I don't send it back if it is under, only when it is over (Alberta Farm Girl! lol) and it was very salty again. This was our first visit to Saltlik although several of our friends had highly recommended it for their great steak! The opportunity to give the restaurant a try during Taste of Calgary was perfect and we will definitely return. The meal was excellent and the prices were right in line with the Calgary food scene.
My wife and I both agreed that are steaks were the best we've had.
Our waiter had a job performance review while serving us...After the first glass of wine, we never saw him again to pour another or ask how our meal was until we were finished our meal. We had to pour our own wine...not cool in a "high end" restaurant like the Saltlik. As regular customers to your fine establishment, we expect nothing but the best in service that matches the best steak in Calgary.
My boyfriend and I went here for date night because we wanted something new we had the calimari to start which was to die for followed by a filet mignon and New York strip accompanied with the brocolli and seasonal vegetables my boyfriend not being a big vegetable eater was obsessed with the brocolli he ate it all before his steak and me being a once or twice a year beef eater I could order that filet every day of the week it was amazing. Highly suggested will defiantly be back!
