About The Chef My name is Paul Friedman and I like to think of myself as just an ordinary guy who has had a lifetime love affair with food and the fortune of having owned and operated 58 restaurants in South Africa, Europe and the United States. I grew up in what was known as the Transvaal province of South Africa, they called it the land of the Xhosas, one of the major ethnic tribes in this part of Africa. Together with fellow N'guni peoples, the Zulu. They make up the majority of the South African population. There are ano... read more

Very nice place for a special occasion, particularly for late lunch or dinner. Fantastic service & absolutely delicious food! The manager, Dane, is great! And all the staff keep the experience very personal. And the drinks aren't skimpy, either 😉 The Short Stack, the lamb chops, the spin on your spinach dip, New Amsterdam Moscato, Chocolate Martini, & Pork Ribeye (& more) were among the delights we enjoyed!
This is a true food experience like nothing you will get in Houston. A true diamond in the tucked in corner of vintage park. Service is phenomenal! A must try!
Edited 1/12/23 to say I went back with my family for my birthday last Sunday. It was sooo delicious! Most of our table got the Backyard Braai so they could taste a variety of things for their first time. I *knew* I wanted my favorite - Lollipop Lambchops. We had a variety of drinks, coffees and desserts. It was a perfect Birthday meal... thank you Chef Paul! I'll be back! :) I'm so glad Chef Paul is back and I have my favorite restaurant again! We went Sunday for brunch (my first time for brunch) and it was outstanding! We s... read more
Food is unique and all the dishes we tried were delicious. Service was also 5 stars - our waitress knew the menu in great detail
My husband and I ate here for the first time last night for our anniversary. The food was phenomenal. We tried the peppadew hummus, onion bahji, acorn chili, and the farmers patch. All tasted wonderful and I wish we would have saved room for dessert! The hummus was delightful with a nice flavor and the acorn chili was very hearty with mushrooms in it. It tasted like comfort food that I had never tried before. Our drinks were delicious as well, the botonical mule and the south african mojito. The atmosphere was very relaxing.... read more
Second time coming to Chef’s table & it was just as good as the first time! Our server Petra was very attentive & kind. Her service made our meal that much better. We also got to talk to Chef Paul - overall 10/10! Try the fried calamari, it’s delicious
Came to Chef’s Table for my moms 55th birthday. I was kind of nervous because we were a table of 20+ ppl…. They handled everything flawlessly. The food was amazing, service was on point! If you are contemplating trying this place the answer is YES you should absolutely eat here it is a great restaurant.
We had a great meal with absolutely the best service imaginable. I had the kingklip that is topped with crab meat and lobster on top of sautéed spinach, with a side a brussel sprouts and potatoes. It was the most delicious fish I’ve ever had. It was cooked perfectly. The chef and manager came to the table to greet us and again to thank us after our meal. We ended our meal with sticky toffee as our dessert. I can’t wait to go back.
