The BS Marketing is TRUE! I purchased the generic ink. Brother claims that is bad to do. Come on Brother, we all know you guys make money on the ink and toners, not the printer. So, your BS marketing is self-serving. BUT what happens when it's actually true? I purchased a 3rd party cartridge here off Amazon. SHOULD have sent it back the same day I bought it. I didn't. Bad Product This ink cartridge leaves a black stripe on the left of all my printing!!!

Stops printing automatically. Stops printing when toner gets low. Older version of this Brother printer was allowed to print until all of the toner was used up, sometimes a whole month of continued use.
One of the two toners purchased ended up being unusable. I purchased two Brother printers and 2 tn760 toners for when the starter Toners were used up. unfortunately one of them ended being a non genuine brother toner and would not work in the printer. I verified it was not a brother toner with the serial number it looked authentic but the serial number was not one of theirs. unfortunately i found this out after the return eligibility date.
Does not last Bought this toner and it definitely did not last 3000 pages. I barely went through a half of a ream of paper and it said out of toner need to replace.

Decided to get genuine brother replacement for 2x the price. Opened the package and there was toner all over it. At least they warned you to do it over a piece of paper. But now the prints are coming out all splotchy and smeared. I thought by getting the genuine brother replacement it would be in perfect condition. very disappointing because of what I spent.
