For me, it works to use them. There are free options out there you could use and they explain this to you when you’re talking to them on the phone. For me, I found it was useful to pay a company to help me navigate the complex world of the VA disability claims. I personally know myself with my mental health that I would end up starting this and never finishing it if I did this on my own.
