I met with the owner, Brian, who was very friendly but came off as more interested in selling his company's electrical maintenance plan than giving me an estimate on the job. In the 30 minutes he spent at my home, more than half of it was spent emphasizing the value of his maintenance plan. That was a big turnoff and did not leave a good impression with me. I do not like being sold services so intensely when all I wanted was an estimate. He could have spent 5 minutes selling the plan and that would have been enough for me. I... read more

When meeting with the member, I assessed the new installation of recessed lighting and new switch controls for her laundry room. Upon my inspection of the attic area and interior branch circuit wiring, I found that several of the interior branch circuits were aluminum. Upon finding the aluminum wiring, I inspected the interior switch the member had directed me to in the laundry room, and found that the aluminum wiring had become fractured. Thus, finding the wiring to be aluminum and the service conductor fractured inside the... read more
Day one they put one fan together. Day to he put the fan up, but it made a funny noise. Ends up there was a screw loose. The next day they were supposed to come back and put a dimmer on our lights and check the loose screw. I waited for a few hours for them to get there, and he finally got there and he couldn't fix it. I had to buy a new fan and a different servicemen came out to try and put the new one up and as it ends up the screw was loose inside a compartment of the original fan. There was a lot of hassle. Called boss t... read more
Business response:
The paddle fan that Ashpaugh Electric installed was extremely noisy due to an additional fastener that had been dropped inside the field motor housing during the manufacturing process. Ashpaugh Electric was able to remove the loose fastener which completely corrected the paddle fan noise. The light fixture situation was discussed with member and it was determined, during conversation between member and Brian Ashpaugh, owner of Ashpaugh Electric, that there was to be further remodeling of a bathroom at a future date. The memb... read more

We want to install outdoor lighting in our new home. Electrician came out and charged $200 just for the visit and to test for electricity on our patio and dock. Electrician said he would have the sales person contact me to come out and quote on installing outdoor lighting. No one called, so I called them after 1 week and asked them to have a sales person contact me. No one ever called me back.- it has been over a month and we are going to use another company.
Business response:
Upon reviewing the Angie’s List Report, Brian Ashpaugh, owner of Ashpaugh Electric made an immediate phone call to the member to discuss her dissatisfaction. Upon speaking with her, Mr. Ashpaugh was able to establish that she called our office, leaving a message on a weekend. Regretfully, the phone message was not relayed to our Customer Service Staff and as a result, we did not return her message to schedule her requested follow-up quotation -- resulting in her extreme disappointment. Owner, Brian Ashpaugh apologized to her... read more
The first time they didn't come out when they said that they would. The second time the work was done well, until afterwards I noticed that there was a can light that someone had stepped on. They try to come back out and fix it, but they never got it back to my satisfaction and I was disappointed because of the damage they caused.
Business response:
WE DID ACCIDENTALLY AND UNKNOWINGLY BUMP A RECESSED FIXTURE IN THE ATTIC WHEN INSTALLING THE NEW ATTIC FAN MOTORS. THE FIXTURE TIPPED SLIGHTLY IN IT'S OPENING. THE DAMAGE WAS CONFINED TO THE IMMEDIATE AREA WHERE THE TRIM WAS LOOSENED AND DID MINOR DRYWALL, PAINT CRACKING. THE MEMBER HAS PERSONALLY MET WITH THE MEMBER TWICE HE REPAIRED THE DRYWALL, REFINISHED AND REPAINTED THE CEILING AREA TO THE MEMBER'S SATISFACTION ON SEPT. 12, 2008. WE SINCERELY APPRECIATE THE MEMBER ALLOWING US THE OPPORTUNITY TO CORRECT THIS SITUATION. ... read more
The process went fairly well, but I felt the service person worked slowly, and was very chatty, using up more time than necessary.
Business response:
WE DID EXPLAIN THE REASON THE PADDLE FAN WAS NOT WORKING. WE DISASSEMBLED THE PADDLE FAN UNIT TO REMOVE THE REMOTE CONTROL DEVICE. THE MEMBER WAS ONLY CHARGED FOR 1/2 HR AND THE ANGIE'S LIST DISCOUNT, WHICH IS GIVEN TO ALL MEMBERS WAS APPLIED TO HER INVOICE.
We assumed the service call was free and then they would charge us for the work. They didn't honor the $20 discount.
Business response:
WE FULLY DISCLOSED ALL CHARGES (TRIP CHARGE, FUEL CHARGE, LABOR CHARGES) WHEN THE MEMBER CALLED TO SCHEDULE THE SERVICE CALL. WE DID APPLY THE $20.00 ANGIE'S LIST DISCOUNT AND DISCLOSED IT ON THE CUSTOMER'S INVOICE.
It took two trips to get done what I wanted.
I felt like I was overcharged for the work that they did. They charge by an hourly fee and they had to come back on a second day and brought a second worker to hold the chandelier. When it was finished the second guy just sat around which I was charged for. When I contacted them about this, they did take a quarter off of the price.
