I'll keep this very honest. My daughter loves sea animals and this is the only aquarium in Austin. We're members there and it's way cheaper to get a membership if you're going more than 3 times a year. The actual aquarium is not the nicest looking or the biggest but it gets the job done and the kids really enjoy it. There are lemurs, sting rays, capybaras (think Encanto, iykyk), etc. lots to see and enjoy. They have their mascot tortoise walking around with a balloon tied around his shell, a mermaid that does glitter tattoos... read more
My heart went out to the animals there. The few employees that were working were really nice, but there was very few. Also there was no food available to feed the animals, the eel on display looked dead, the iguana on displayed tried to walk off the boat and my daughter had to grab it before it fell. This was just a big warehouse with tanks and cages. Just wish it was cared for a little more then it was.
My boyfriend and I were really excited for our visit, just to be pretty let down. Tickets were reasonable and encounter pricing was pretty reasonable as well, just wish we would've gotten to encounter the capybara like we paid for. Seemed to be a fairly clean place, except for the giant cockroach running around on the floor. Animal exhibits definitely need some maintenance, the animals deserve more for sure. It's also more of a petting zoo than an aquarium. Back to the encounters, we were told it'd be about 15 minutes to go ... read more
I had a relatively nice experience, however during my visit on 3/31 I noticed a blonde male employee sneak 6 of his "friends" through a back door near the concessions stand and proceeded to let all of these friends block up the lines and get preferential treatment while I had to pay through the nose for tokens. Also, the employee at the front desk failed to mention that since it being a weekday encounters were half off, so we paid 27$ for 10 tokens and didn't even use all of them. Besides that I loved the exhibits and I stil... read more
Went to the aquarium for an adventure day. And the aquarium was super packed. Very popular site. The air reeked of animal feed, bird poop, and stagnant water. Air filtration is a must upgrade! Enclosures are dated and, for some of the animal inhabitants, entirely too small. But, they had sting rays, sharks, ringtail lemurs, koi fish, and even a capybara for photos and petting. The small aquarium was more diverse than I had expected and the kids really seem to enjoy themselves. The price for Austin Aquarium is inflated. Howev... read more
Such a fun experience!! We thought it would just be sea creatures, but there was so much more. The employees seemed to really care about the animals and was well worth the money. Definitely recommend!!!!! I know everyone has different experiences, so definitely try it for yourself. I would recommend going on a week/less busy day so you don't feel rushed.
We had a good experience here a few weekends ago! Definitely a different type of aquarium, but in a good way. It's very interactive. They also have non aquatic animals there and you can pet them!! We did the lemur encounter and that was so cool!
Very lackluster experience. Exhibits are crammed together and over crowded with no staff monitoring the touch pools or hand on exhibits. We finished walking the whole aquarium in under an hour. I just got bad vibes from an aquarium that wasn't promoting keeping oceans clean and had plastic waste all over their gift shop. Definitely seemed like a pop-up exhibit. I hope the animals are taken care of.
Our kids always have a wonderful time here! From the land animals, like the Lemurs and Capybara to the hands on feeding of the Manta Rays, they get so excited. My favorite experience is the parakeet bird feeding, literally 40 birds will land on you at a time. If you have younger children the Aquarium is a fantastic experience for the whole family!
