Okay so someone brought a bunch of your cupcakes into work the other day. There had only been one other cathartic food moment in my entire life until I ate a Bethel Bakery cupcake. In those precious minutes it took me to eat that divine pastry, all was right with the world. If someone walked up to me with a gun and said "If you take one more bite of that cupcake, I will shoot you in the face.", I would have taken another bite and died happy. It was a truly life changing foodie moment and I will cherish it forever. more »

Stephanie, wow!! Thank you for your kind words! We are truly honored that our cupcakes had such an effect on you! We can neither confirm nor deny that they are, in fact, magic. But, other customers have been known to break out in melodious song and/or spontaneous dance as well upon ingestion. 😉 Welcome to the Bethel Bakery family! We look forward to being a part of your family traditions for years to come!

Bethel Bakery was absolutely phenomenal to work with. The employees were incredibly helpful during our initial tasting, and the cake met and exceeded our expectations the day of the wedding. It looked stunning - the icing colors were vibrant and the icing roses were perfect i their detail. And, it tasted delicious! We got many compliments on the cake during and after the event. Additionally, we had leftover cake after the event (in addition to our frozen top tier), and I have to say that even the leftover cake kept very well! We were extremely pleased from start to finish and would highly recommend them to any engaged couple beginning their wedding planning process! more »

Bethel Bakery is a Bethel Park institution! Well known throughout the Pittsburgh area for exceptional baked goods.
Their buttercream frosting is legendary, and delicious.
Whatever you are
looking for, Bethel Bakery will have, cakes, donuts, coffee cakes, cookies...the list goes on.
The wedding cake salon has tastings, any idea you have, they can accommodate.
Service is exceptional, and best of all, this is a family owned business.

Had to share this with you. You did our wedding cake 17 months ago, and as we live in Texas, taking the top home to eat on our one year anniversary just wasn't going to work. We froze it and left it in Pittsburgh until we were back this weekend. We thawed it, cut into it, and believe it or not, it was just as good as the day we got married. Thanks again for providing the wonderful products that you create. more »

We had an absolutely amazing time at our consultation with Bethel Bakery, and the cakes were amazingly flavorful! After a disappointing experience elsewhere I was really impressed with the friendliness and instant professionalism of our consultant. She walked us through getting the perfect cake for our budget and has been very responsive since. We have some unique design ideas and they have been very willing to work with us. Their pricing is amazingly fair and they have been a joy to work with. more »

Every cake since my birth has come from Bethel Bakery, wedding cake too. Cake isn't my thing but I love BB's cake. Some people have told me they aren't into the buttercream because it's more oily than buttery, but I don't know it any other way. BB could use some new designs when it comes to customized cakes, if it's not on their list of designs don't expect a lot of ideas from their team. Fortunately, it seems as though BB will allow anything to be created if you present the idea. Wedding cakes are still super traditional (boring). Would have been nice to have the option of watercolor or seen something new during our appointment. The cookies & other pastries are really good, I recommend trying one of everything. more »

About

Edit
Since Bethel Bakery opened for business in the 1955 in the south hills section of Pittsburgh, generations of patrons have made their way to the shop for the bakery’s signature pastries, cookies, coffeecakes and one-of-a-kind cakes.

With a number of years of bakery experience, a stint in the Navy behind him and a small inheritance, Morris Walsh, with characteristic determination, made his dream of owning his own bakery a reality when he and a partner opened for business during the Eisenhower administration. While his business partner left the venture within a few months, Morris soon gained another associate, his future wife, Anna.

Together, the couple built the boutique bakery into one of the busiest and most beloved purveyors of high-quality baked goods in western Pennsylvania. And they did it while raising seven children, all of whom would eventually work in the family business.

Today, a second generation of the Walsh family manages the bakery. John and his wife, Chris, took over day-to-day operations in 1991and expanded the already extensive inventory of baked goods, but Morris and Anna’s legacy of exceptional quality and customer service lives on.

People travel for miles for a taste of Bethel Bakery’s signature buttercream icing and discriminating brides across the region wouldn’t dream of celebrating their nuptials with anything but a hand-crafted, custom-designed Bethel Bakery cake decorated by one of the shop’s talented designers.

In 2006, Bethel Bakery’s iconic status in the region was recognized by award-winning documentary filmmaker Rick Sebak, who featured the bakery in his WQED program, “What Makes Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh.”

In an era driven by convenience and competition from mega-markets and chain stores, Bethel Bakery has endured because it is far more than just a retailer of baked goods—it is an memorable destination experience and a nostalgic reminder of the charms of independent bakeries that were once part of the fabric of every community.
