We visited bethel bakery to do cake tasting for our wedding cake. We chose the white cake with a raspberry filling in the Sophia design. The cake was so yummy. Probably the best cake I have had ( and I'm not big on cake). The icing isn't too sweet, the filling was wonderful. The raspberry mixed with the icing gave it just enough tartness not to make it overwhelmingly sweet. I loved the way they decorated my cake and the flavor. And I myself am a cake decorator so, I'm sure I was a pain at the cake tasting. Thank you Bethel Bakery. You made my day more »

Thank you Bethel Bakery! We had such a wonderful experience. We wanted an unconventional cake with frosting only between the layers. We had fresh flowers (through our florist) on the outside, but the cake was essentially naked. It was gorgeous. They also offered to bake us a new top layer for our anniversary since a cake without frosting won't freeze well. We tasted and chose, and then never worried about it. When we saw the cake we were both amazed! It was perfect! Not to mention the taste! We got so many compliments. Without the frosting the cake really has to be delicious, and it sure was! Thank you Bethel Bakery, we look forward to eating it again next year!! more »

I cannot say enough about Bethel Bakery.. My family has been buying cakes here for my whole lifetime... I remember as a little girl going in and getting a cookie as we picked up every birthday cake for every birthday.. and always hoping I would be lucky enough to have my wedding cake from there... this past year my dream came true and I was granted my wish for my Happily Ever After wedding. Bethel Bakery went above and beyond for my special day. I will forever recommend them for any special occasion. They also did my cookie table for the wedding and I am still getting compliments on the cookies. Thank you John and the team at Bethel Bakery! more »

I was waiting in line to order and admiring the baked goods. My mouth watering with the great smells and tempting baked good offerings. A generous person gave me their ticket a few numbers ahead of me. After talking to other patrons, I gave my original ticket to another person (it was ahead of the one they had). I purchased more than I planned. I loved the butter cream filled donuts I purchased. These were not too sweet.
Bottom line if you are nice and treat others with respect; the good actions arrive in unexpected ways!

We ordered my daughter's first birthday cake from Bethel Bakery. Carol took a lot of time to get a feel for what we wanted. The decorator did a fantastic job of interpreting the inspiration pictures I brought in and making it her own. The cake and "itty bitty" smash cake were so beautiful I hated to even cut (smash!) and eat them! The cake tasted as good as it looked. It is apparent that the staff at Bethel Bakery truly cares about their product. Thank you Bethel Bakery for helping to make our daughter's first birthday so special. We will definitely be back. more »

About

Edit
Since Bethel Bakery opened for business in the 1955 in the south hills section of Pittsburgh, generations of patrons have made their way to the shop for the bakery’s signature pastries, cookies, coffeecakes and one-of-a-kind cakes.

With a number of years of bakery experience, a stint in the Navy behind him and a small inheritance, Morris Walsh, with characteristic determination, made his dream of owning his own bakery a reality when he and a partner opened for business during the Eisenhower administration. While his business partner left the venture within a few months, Morris soon gained another associate, his future wife, Anna.

Together, the couple built the boutique bakery into one of the busiest and most beloved purveyors of high-quality baked goods in western Pennsylvania. And they did it while raising seven children, all of whom would eventually work in the family business.

Today, a second generation of the Walsh family manages the bakery. John and his wife, Chris, took over day-to-day operations in 1991and expanded the already extensive inventory of baked goods, but Morris and Anna’s legacy of exceptional quality and customer service lives on.

People travel for miles for a taste of Bethel Bakery’s signature buttercream icing and discriminating brides across the region wouldn’t dream of celebrating their nuptials with anything but a hand-crafted, custom-designed Bethel Bakery cake decorated by one of the shop’s talented designers.

In 2006, Bethel Bakery’s iconic status in the region was recognized by award-winning documentary filmmaker Rick Sebak, who featured the bakery in his WQED program, “What Makes Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh.”

In an era driven by convenience and competition from mega-markets and chain stores, Bethel Bakery has endured because it is far more than just a retailer of baked goods—it is an memorable destination experience and a nostalgic reminder of the charms of independent bakeries that were once part of the fabric of every community.
