We met with Chelsea to design our dream cake and are so excited! We can't wait for our family and friends to see it and most importantly, taste it! Chelsea took her time and made sure that we understood the process and allowed us to design every detail of the cake. Bethel Bakery is HIGHLY recommended when choosing a vendor to make your wedding cake! more »

This is the way it should be done. We ordered our birthday cake on-line with an photo. Not only was the color/resolution of the photo great but the cake was DELICIOUS. We happened to have two events this weekend and someone ordered a cake from Giant Eagle for our second celebration. We ended up having a taste test and Bethel Bakery was the clear winner!! Why are you still reading this review and not ordering your cake?!? Lol. more »

From start to finish, our experience working with Bethel Bakery was excellent. The cake tasting appointment was so fun! I recommend not eating each sample in one bite. Experiment with different flavor combinations. Maybe the mango from the one sample tastes really good with the strawberry of the other sample, but you would have never known if you hadn't combined them! That's what I ended up doing, and I was really satisfied with my decision on a three layered chocolate/vanilla with raspberry in between per tier of the cake. When I left the appointment, I had selected one style, but three weeks later had a change of heart to another style. I called the bakery and they were very accommodating to my change. About a week before the wedding when I was in stress mode, I called the bakery to go over final details. The person I spoke with on the phone not only helped me with my cake questions but was kind enough to simply ask how I was doing and holding up. It was such a simple yet kind thing to do. The wedding industry is sometimes so focused on the actual wedding day, that a simple question on how I was feeling in the moment really showed their high level of customer dedication. I say dedication in place of satisfaction because I was not only very satisfied with the delicious end result, but really impressed with their care and dedication to their customers. more »

About

Edit
Since Bethel Bakery opened for business in the 1955 in the south hills section of Pittsburgh, generations of patrons have made their way to the shop for the bakery’s signature pastries, cookies, coffeecakes and one-of-a-kind cakes.

With a number of years of bakery experience, a stint in the Navy behind him and a small inheritance, Morris Walsh, with characteristic determination, made his dream of owning his own bakery a reality when he and a partner opened for business during the Eisenhower administration. While his business partner left the venture within a few months, Morris soon gained another associate, his future wife, Anna.

Together, the couple built the boutique bakery into one of the busiest and most beloved purveyors of high-quality baked goods in western Pennsylvania. And they did it while raising seven children, all of whom would eventually work in the family business.

Today, a second generation of the Walsh family manages the bakery. John and his wife, Chris, took over day-to-day operations in 1991and expanded the already extensive inventory of baked goods, but Morris and Anna’s legacy of exceptional quality and customer service lives on.

People travel for miles for a taste of Bethel Bakery’s signature buttercream icing and discriminating brides across the region wouldn’t dream of celebrating their nuptials with anything but a hand-crafted, custom-designed Bethel Bakery cake decorated by one of the shop’s talented designers.

In 2006, Bethel Bakery’s iconic status in the region was recognized by award-winning documentary filmmaker Rick Sebak, who featured the bakery in his WQED program, “What Makes Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh.”

In an era driven by convenience and competition from mega-markets and chain stores, Bethel Bakery has endured because it is far more than just a retailer of baked goods—it is an memorable destination experience and a nostalgic reminder of the charms of independent bakeries that were once part of the fabric of every community.
