We ordered chicken fried steak with scrambled eggs and country potatoes. My husband picked it up in Beaverton and drove it back to Hillsboro. It was still warm and the most delicious breakfast we have had in awhile. The chicken fried steak just melted in our mouths. Don't usually ever write a review but this warranted it!
Black Bear Diner has huge, delicious breakfasts & the biscuits are as big as a baby's head! Try the breakfast sliders--your choice of spicy or mild sausage on brioche buns. Vanessa is our favorite server--she's friendly, attentive & has a really cute personality.

The Black Bear Diner...one of those restaurants that will always remain constant in their quality of food, quality of service and large plates full of food. Great family restaurant, with friendly servers. As others have mentioned in their reviews...the one thing Black Bear is famous for is their absolutely huge portions that they serve you. Whenever we are looking for a place to eat and can't decide collectively, we will usually end up here.

I have heard great things about this restaurant so I decided to go. The portions are HUGE!! The food was hot and delicious! The Chicken fried steak was tender and seasoned perfectly! The gravy was amazing! I had eggs with it and hash browns!! Two huge biscuits extra gravy!! Of course no one can eat all this so I had some to take home for later. My server was so nice I had my drink always filled up with iced tea. You know the food is delicious because the place was packed full of people it was amazing! Families and just ... read more

They work magic in the kitchen! That's the truth, the food is more like a therapeutic experience than just a meal. I love the feel of being in a forest town, it reminded me of Bend, Oregon. This is my new favorite Portland restaurant.
