Ordered a burger with loaded fries. Took one bit of my burger. Then a fly landed on my burger and didn't move. Asked them to remake it and they did. But the also changed my fries. Thought I would get loaded fries again. Ended up with fries topped with bacon. Also looked under our table and that's when you can tell they don't clean as well as they should. Had a steak knife and open creamers. Really wanted to like this place. Will not be coming back. How sad.

Black Bear Diner is a chain with a hunting lodge theme that really appeals in ski towns and other touristy spots. They've got souvenirs and a menu printed like a newspaper, and they serve really huge portions of very mediocre food. The outpost in Tarzana, in a space formerly occupied by a Coco's, drew crowds when it first opened, but has since lost much of its appeal, no doubt because the prices are very high, especially compared to either of the family-run breakfast spots that essentially flank Black Bear, serving better fo... read more

The food was wonderful. Unfortunately the service left much to be desired. They' seemed to be chronically understaffed with two waitresses serving a section containing 30 tables. They tried hard but couldn't keep up

The food was very disappointing. I went twice. Once for breakfast and once for dinner. The breakfast was not good, and the eggs Benedict was disgusting, horrible sauce and substandard bread. The all you can eat fish fry was a joke. The fish was overcooked and had more breading than fish. The hush puppies were dry and tasteless. The coleslaw was average. Now the good. The French fries were delicious. The prime rib was good and the corn bread was delicious. The coffee, and milkshake, was very good. The service was excellent, t... read more

The food was so horrid I wouldn't feed this food to my neighbors dog. The eggs were so dry and gummy I was convinced it was expired astronaut food. The fresh squeezed oj was the only thing half descent there. But on a positive note the service was good and she was very understanding of our complaints.

The Service was excellent but the food was absolutely absurd. i ordered a veggie omelette with a pancake and hash browns on the side. the hash browns were overly cooked and not cooked at the same time which is confusing. the veggie omelette was disgusting and unedible. it was hard to eat with lack of flavor. the pancake taste undercooked, it taste just like uncooked pancake batter. it doesn't seem like its the cook thats the issue it seems like the products that they use to make the food is low quality. DO BETTER

The only good thing about this place was the service. So disappointing trying this place , food is expensive and not good. Please change the cook! They charge $25 dollars for mushy country potatoes and a huge roll. My bf is not a picky eater and he didn't even finish is food.

It's all about customer service If restaurants are going to charge these absurd prices then they should really cater to their customers. They simply didn't provide enough syrup with their pancakes. So I asked for more and they proceeded to charge me for it. Lame. I simply removed the fee from the tip. Screw me screw you. Waitress figure out how to provide more syrup without charging people - I know you can do it! The interior is cool - lots of wood and bear stuff.

This diner is good for breakfast and that's about it. We have tried it for dinner several times, and the service is poor and the food is served lukewarm. There are a lot of better options in the Valley for dinner. The portions are large, but the food is ordinary for dinner.

Business response:

Thank you for the feedback. We're always trying to make dining at Black Bear Diner the best experience it can be, so thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.
