After a long flight (delay) from LA I stopped in for a bite to eat. I was seated and my waitress came over with a smile. She was busy but made sure I was greeted and she took my drink order. I ordered iced tea. Erin came back around shortly after she had told me the ice tea didn't look fresh and she was making a new batch (WOW) I'm pretty sure 90% of waiters and waitresses out there don't care and they just serve their customers whatever is in the pitcher. We're from out of town and were looking for a good all purpose diner. The Black Bear really fit the bill!! I had the California Benedict and the hubs had the meatloaf plate. He said everything was good and well seasoned but objected to the carrots in the meatloaf. He said it had a sweet flavor that he didn't like. My California Benedict was outstanding. We're from out of town and were looking for a good all purpose diner. The Black Bear really fit the bill!! I had the California Benedict and the hubs had the meatloaf plate. It is a fascinating little place. They truly embrace the bear motif. Little bear touches were in every nook and cranny. We were greeted by a very gracious waitress. The service was wonderful. She was great at anticipating our needs. It's comfort food. It is the type of food you can imagine having at a family dinner. The portions are large. Come hungry. The fried chicken was decent. This is generally a fun place to eat with fairly predictable quality. I enjoy it. And go there frequently. Last time, however I ordered a waffle and was severely disappointed. It looked like a pancake had been pressed in the waffle maker. Waffle was thin, and unimpressive. I just expected a bit more, I guess.
