Breakfast is great, lunch is gross. Fries taste like they were cooked in the same oil as fish.
Way overpriced $$...average food. Expected more...was a mistake to stop...
We were there for lunch on a Saturday. We expected a lunch menu but only the brunch menu was being served. Very disappointing. The food was mediocre and there was no draft beer even though it was on the menu. We will not be going back.
This was not the uptown Brooklyn Diner, as it is under renovation. When I made the reservation in July, the Brooklyn Diner assured me it would be open by my reservation date in mid-October. The iconic neon lighting hinted that the place was open, but the sign on the door said the restaurant was closed, and directed us to a couple of blocks away where there was a far more expensive restaurant that had a tiny menu with about 5 Brooklyn Diner options. Unfortunately, the Brooklyn Diner was being renovated with no heads up during the reservation during booking via open table at the time of the booking. So it was a really bad experience when we came to Brooklyn Diner and were redirected to a cafe/restaurant around the corner. The cafe itself was completely fine but it was NOT Brooklyn Diner!
Every year my coworker and I take each other here for our birthdays. Every year I put in a note for a surprise slice of cake and every year I have to remind the staff because the note is clearly never read. After our meal today, the waitstaff handed me the bill instead of slice of cake. I found a way to walk over to the host and remind him about the slice of cake while still trying to keep it a surprise from my coworker. I hated to write this review but the food was not normal BD food. My bread was burned and the hummus plate had veggies that should have been crisp soggy, others were dry and unappealing. Hot dog great as always but sad to say if it wasn’t my first time I would hesitate returning. Please tell me this was a fluke because we go to BD every time we are in NYC. We will return to NYC this year and hope to try again. Sad dedicated customer.
Food was overpriced and menu items were not made as described. Online menu was not anywhere close to what was actually available, so don’t waste your time there. The man-bun wearing waiter was the rudest one I’ve ever encountered. I would describe the overall experience was disappointing and a waste of money. I am sad to have wasted the money and time at this restaurant.
