I can't begin to tell you how delighted we were with our dinner at Café Fiorello on Sunday. This is not the first time we'd been there but this time was special. We were celebrating a special birthday and everyone was very friendly and set the stage for the delicious food and good service we received. A special thank you to Michael, the manager, who really made the experience a wonderful one.
We had reservations, yet it took them 3 tries for them to find us a seat. The food was very good, but when another couple sat down, their waiter, when offering the specials stated, "and for the gentleman we have a steak" and proceeded to describe it. We were two women and our waiter assumed we did not want this dish because we were women. This bothered me. Always lovely, make a reservation as it gets busy, perfect before and after the opera, and now open for breakfast. Amazing gorgeous staff, we arrived early, and were ushered in anyway, before opening and given coffee. Thank you!
We had a little mix-up about the ingredients in a dish we thought the vegan member of our party would be able to enjoy. She had spoken to the restaurant via telephone prior to our arrival and was assured the dish was vegan. She tried to confirm this with the waiter, who then checked with the kitchen, and said the dish contained cheese in one of its prepared ingredients and could not be made vegan. Much much busier than I remembered especially for late like 830 on Sunday night. Waitstaff lovely. Took a little time between app and entree but the good food made the longer than expected wait ok. Neighborhood staple for sure.
It was great! Our waiter was terrific. We love all of Shelly's restaurants. He is a fabulous restaurant guy. We particularly miss the Shelly's on 57th.
Very crowded and frenetic place. Tables are inches apart, and the aisles are tiny, leaving no room to move patrons and waitstaff around the restaurant. Our waiter was running and dodging among tables and people constantly. I ordered salmon, which was over-cooked. Spaghetti carbenera was tasty. Just too crowded and noisy--even by NYC standards.
Fantastic place near Lincoln Center...Service incredible, food fabulous. Highly recommended!!
