Will always regret using this facility, my beloved pet is dead due to sloppy post-operative care in a chaotic, small and loud ICU. Surgical team abandoned my pet and me after surgery and handed off to a stranger who on day one after surgery wanted pet euthanized. Do not risk your loved animal at this facility, go to a vet university in NC or Fla. Anywhere but here or you will be burying your pet. Communication is poor, slow to answer and calls are not returned. Money matters immensely to CVRC.

Business response:

Hi Paula: We hear your pain in your review and are very sorry for your loss. Due to the complex and high risk nature of the surgery, your pet's post-operative care was assigned to a board certified critical care specialist. Our team champions every pet during treatment and recovery. We do not take the topic of euthanasia lightly and only discuss it when a pet's health begins to worsen despite all of our best efforts. We did our best to explain the risks prior to surgery and prepare you for the potential complications. We re... read more

Extremely poorly run practice. Scheduled my first appointment and filled out the paper work they sent me, arrived and they said they didn't have my appointment scheduled....I should have known not to go back, but my dog needed surgery. So we went back for an actual appointment and scheduled a TPLO and had the surgery done. THEN I called less than 24 hours before my next follow up appointment to ask some questions and they told me that the surgeon who did the surgery was gone and they didn't didn't know when she was coming ba... read more

Business response:

Our team is disappointed to hear that you were not happy with our services or communication. We appreciate you giving us the opportunity to speak about it by phone. On the day of your pet's appointment, our intention was to provide options so your pet could still receive follow-up care while respecting your work schedule. We apologize that these didn't meet your needs. We sincerely hope your pet is doing well, and we wish you and your family a happy holiday season.

They killed my beautiful Lois due to the negligence (they admitted to) of the anesthesia technician. I brought my baby there to have an operation but she never had a chance due to the the negligence of the tech. The technician at Charleston Veterinary Referral Center overdosed my baby and sent her into cardiac arrest. They brought her back, but she then had about seven more cardiac arrests and they couldn't rescue her from the living hell they sent her. The technician that killed my dog was not fired or suspended. This ... read more

This is a business that is driven by upcharging by increased testing and recommendations of unnecessary vet services to increase billing ever since it was first sold first to an investment group and then flipped to a German private equity company. While one of the few emergency vets in Charleston, my experience was that the corporate owners are only concerned about increasing costs to increase their corporate profits. It's corporate side can only be described as vampiric. I don't judge the doctors who have signed noncompete... read more

I took my, almost 2 year old, cat in on Saturday evening after noticing he was not peeing all of the sudden. My home vet closes at 5pm on Saturdays and are closed completely on Sundays. I got there and was seen promptly and unfortunately the staff determined it was a worse case scenario-- my cat had a urinary blockage due to stress. They told me it could be anywhere from $1400-$2600 dollars. I knew going in that it was going to pricey, but that shocked me a little. We talked about lowering the price, as I am a college stude... read more

Care is good, but expect to pay $1,000+ per night of care. That's for a saline drip and antibiotics. It's outrageous. Surgeries upwards of $10,000 when 65% of Americans have less than $500 for an emergency. Very thankful we had the money in our savings to cover the cost. Our cat was sent here by an overly cautious vet who thought she had internal bleeding and not just the actual skin-deep lacerations that were healed by a simple prescription of antibiotics. Only took $1,400.00 for us to be pointed to that conclusion. I find... read more

Worst vet experience I've ever had. My dog had a growth on its paw we wanted an opinion on as we were very worried it was cancerous. Waited an hour and a half to be seen as every other person was attended to except us. Finally, after telling the front desk we were leaving, we were seen. We went in and the vet gave us a total of three minutes of her time. Wouldn't even bend down to look at the paw, just stood there and told us to have it looked at by our vet. We pressed further about an initial opinion or if she had seen this... read more

I do not feel the facility as a whole is very caring about how anyone feels or their animals. I repeatedly had to remind the nurse and the vet my cat was a female not a male. When I did not agree to let them just charge me for whatever they made us wait extremely long to see the vet. Another couple came in after us who were seen almost the same time we were but they agreed to the charges. None of the staff seemed very caring until after they had to put my cat down and then I was told they were sorry. If it had not been for m... read more
