This is the only way to shop for diamonds, hands down. My fiance and I had a really special experience here-exactly how I've been picturing my entire life how ring shopping should be! The best part is how VERY patient they were (I changed my mind 1000 times, and fiance' is super thorough). I think that's also why I loved the individual room service-I felt like I could take the time I deserved for such an important decision. I bought my wife's engagement ring at Mervis in July 2010 and our wedding rings there in February 2011. My fiancée and I visited many jewelry stores (Kay, Jared, Fink's, etc) in the Northern Virginia area and Mervis ended up having our favorite rings. They also had a great selection of loose diamonds with the cut we were looking for (asscher). After a horrible "used-car" experience in the Tyson's location, my fiancee and I decided to try the DC branch, hoping it would be better. The service was definitely much friendlier, this could be because at this point we really had in mind what we wanted. Becky was great in finding settings that were exactly what we were looking for. My boyfriend and I made an appointment for a Saturday in mid-December. Ashley emailed me a few days before to confirm the appointment--which I thought was really nice! She asked what styles I was interested in. I replied with links to 10 rings on the Mervis website, plus descriptions of what I was looking for in general. We arrived on time for our appointment. I recently purchased an engagement ring for my fiancée from this location and it was an outstanding experience! I already had a Tacori setting in mind but needed help choosing a diamond. Although they didn't have my setting in stock, my salesperson Emile Brebeck found another Tacori setting immediately that I liked just as well and it was also cheaper. I started my search for an ER in April of 2010. I spent a lot of time researching diamonds and so when I went to Mervis I was pretty set on what I wanted out of a diamond. We met with Gail who was extremely helpful. Never did I feel like she was pushing anything on us and she definitely made me feel like I was choosing a ring for a lifetime and not one for a sale. I recently purchased my new fiance's engagement ring here. I received good, but not fantastic, customer service. One thing about Mervis is that you really need to have an idea of what you are looking for since they don't have displays of jewelry to look at. Instead that seat you in a room and bring you what they think meets your description. I had a good idea of what I was looking for and this worked for me, but Mervis wouldn't be a good place for someone who was looking for ideas. Hi Chad, Thanks for your review. The Tacori brand that you mentioned has a strict, "no discounting" policy. Our promotion therefore excluded that one brand. To your other point, we do not charge to mount our own stones. That is why it was never brought up in conversation until you arrived with a stone from another store.

Perhaps I just didn't want to spend enough to satisfy the salesperson with whom we worked (I do not recall her name). My wife has small hands and we didn't want something huge, though in the end we still spent close to $6K for an engagement ring and custom matched band.
