We are SO glad we went for a 2nd opinion! We have taken our Lab, Lucy, to Dr. D since we moved to Discovery Bay in 2006. Lucy was now almost 13 years old. We thought Dr. D was high priced and wanted to always do many tests and procedures, but was conveniently located. Recently Lucy developed a very large, fast growing tumor on her abdomen. Dr. D performed a biopsy, which he said was inconclusive but did have spindle cells, which may indicate cancer. After the biopsy, Dr. D recommended X-Rays to see if the tumor had metasta... read more

Business response:

Thank you for telling us about your experience, Jan. I am so sorry for your loss and please know Lucy and your family are in our thoughts during this time. We are sorry for the negative experience you had with our clinic. Many times, additional tests are helpful in ensuring a correct diagnosis and treatment plan to prevent further complications and we strive to provide your pet with the best care by always performing a thorough physical exam.. Unfortunately, a lot of these tests can be expensive, but we can assure you they ... read more

Good Vet, but twice as much as other vets in the area. The last three times I have been there the price shocked me. Friday was the final straw. I checked other vets in the are for the same exam and Dr. D is twice as high. Good Guy probably a good vet, but be ready to pay double.

Business response:

Hi Mary, we are sorry to hear you do not find our prices comparable to your budget. We work hard to ensure we are providing your pets the highest quality of veterinary treatment and care possible. Our veterinarians and staff are always willing to work with you to determine the best options of treatment for your furry friend, while keeping costs fair to you. Please feel free to give us a call and we would be happy to address any further concerns you may have!

We took a sick kitten there on a Friday. He had been lethargic, vomitting, and acting weird. After the quick physical exam of the kitty we were asked what made us think the kitten was sick. They didn't think he was sick. I think they just wanted to make sure they got to leave at 5:30 when they closed so they rushed it. we were treated as though we were just paranoid and that the kitten was fine. He died the next day. I would NEVER take another animal here if it's life depended on it.

Business response:

Thank you for telling us about your experience, Niki. We understand how important your pet is to you and take every step possible to keep your pet healthy and happy. Our primary focus is to provide exceptional medical care for your pets and make both you and them feel comfortable during each visit. Unfortunately without additional testing, it is often difficult to fully diagnose your pet. We apologize for any miscommunication which may have occurred. We would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this issue with you in m... read more

This is the WORST veterinary office I have ever been to. I took my older cat in to be groomed. They cut his leg so bad they had to put several stitches in. Then they declared that they were not going to charge me for the stitches. Really? How tacky! They injured my cat and then act as though they are doing me a favor. My poor baby was traumatized and never the same after coming home. I brought my cat back once against my better judgement to have the stitches removed. He limped and was lethargic after leaving the off... read more

Thank you for telling us about your experience, Elizabeth. Our primary focus is to provide exceptional medical care and customer service and make both you and your pet feel comfortable during each visit. We are sorry to hear that you were not pleased with either of your visits. In the future, we will be mo... read more

I couldn't agree more with both exsisting reviews. We were new in town, so I thought we'd give this vet a try. We brought our cat in for a check up because she had been urinating in the home. I was convinced this was because we had recently gotten a new kitten, but wanted to be sure she didn't have a bladder infection. The doctor "upsold" me into a battery of tests that cost over $450, tried to sell me cat food because "what I was feeding her was generic", and basically asked if I needed an apple pie with that. Of couse ... read more

Thank you for taking the time to review us. We are sorry about the experience you had with our clinic. We understand that veterinary care and pet medicine can be costly, however, we are confident that your pet will be treated with high quality equipment, medicine, and a knowledgeable doctor, so that we can avoid future problems. Before writing a prescription, our doctor wants to be sure that the pet will not have a bad reaction, which is why we conduct tests. We never want to deny a pet medical attention, so feel free to... read more

I've been taking a couple of my dogs here for about a year and the vet has yet to resolve anything for either one. Not only does he charge you $50 for EVERY visit which is ridiculous, but his rates are much higher than any other vet I've ever been to (and I've seen well over a dozen). I don't think I've ever made it out of their for under $200 and all he ever wants to do is TEST for everything so he can then charge you for the tests and the medication for each 'possible' ailment. You would THINK that if he insists on testi... read more

VERY Overpriced, nice over the phone. I recently moved to the area and my two dogs came due for their adult annual shots. I was quoted the price of 44.00 for the exam plus 23 rabies and 47 Parvo/Distemper and 25.00 lepto=139 per pet. I contacted my old vet, VCA Old River Veterinary Hospital in Tracy, and they quoted me 45 exam 15.70 rabies, 22 (6in1) which has Distemper/Parvo/Lepto all in one shot=82.70 per pet. A savings of 56.30 per pet...Traveling to Tracy is worth the savings. I might try the Brentwood Vet Clinic next t... read more

If there was a way to give zero stars I would! I took my puppy to the Discovery Bay vet clinic the first time nearly 13 years ago. It was not a good experience, but it is the only vet in town. I quickly learned that the visits are over priced and heard from others that I would be better off taking my baby to the vaccination clinic at local pet stores. The vet is not loving or caring toward his patients. I seriously think they are the worst. Once I found them sitting on top of my pet as she screamed out while they were ... read more

Business response:

Thank you for sending us feedback. We apologize for the experience you had. Going to the vet is a stressful time for animals, and while we always strive to provide gentle and compassionate service for your pets, many times they scream or bark out of mere anxiety. We understand that putting a pet to sleep is a tough decision. We do our best to assist you in your decision and make your pet as comfortable as possible, but unfortunately we do not have enough doctors at our clinic to provide house calls. Your pet is our numb... read more
