This company is deceptive and underhanded. I called them this summer to alert them that I thought 2 of their promotion agents were tricking people into changing electric company providers. I was told they were taking a survey for a free gift card. I told them repeatedly that I was not switching providers and they assured me that was not what they were doing. I even called the company later that day because it seemed suspicious. The receptionist assured me I had not signed up to change providers. Sure enough the next month on... read more

I don't typically look over my electric bill, but it was higher than normal for the winter. I see a charge for Energy Harbor... Never heard of them. I call AEP and they tell me Energy Harbor is my supplier. Again, I knew nothing about this. I never signed a contract. I called Energy Harbor, they said my community had enrolled me and sent me an "opt out" letter. I never "opted in". This is super shady and stealing! I told them to remove me immediately. They said it could take a few cycles. BS!! I want out today. I never signe... read more

Business response:

Thank you for your feedback. I have verified that your account will be returned to your local utility, AEP Ohio Power for the supplier portion of your bill. Your account was enrolled into your communities government aggregation program. A government aggregation program is where community officials use group buying power to purchase electricity from a retail electric generation supplier certified by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. The program was approved by voters in your community in November 2010.

I was enrolled in the program by default. i was been charged for 50 dollars for the first month on the pseg bill it's the first time i realized i was automatically enrolled. I called the pseg to cancel the plan immediately. But the second month the energy harbor still charged me more than 150 dollars. I called them, they said they need at least 7-10 business day to escalate the billing question. the customer service is just a... read more

Received first monthly bill from this company which was formerly First Energy Corp before bankruptcy. The state of Ohio gave it a Billion dollar bailout with our money. It, allegedly, bribed politicians to get the $$$. My statement has a $72 charge for First Energy, which supposedly, is gone. My total bill is $42 more than previous month's bill with almost same kilowatt usage. It seems like theft.

Business response:

Thank you for your feedback. I apologize for your experience, Energy Harbor would like the opportunity to further review your account to ensure accurate charges. Please contact our Customer Care department at 1-888-204-5987, Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM

I received a $25 bill in the mail for early termination of services. They said i had a 2 year contract with them and that by switching electric providers, I owe $25 for terminating their services early. What really gets me is that I never signed a contract with them or agreed to pay any sort of termination fee. They said they sent me a letter in the mail and that since i didn't respond to opt out of their services, I was automatically enrolled in a contract with them for 2 years. Crazy right? I was entered into a contract th... read more

I was paying my bill with AEP Ohio and when going through my bill we saw that my supplier was changed to Energy Harbor back in September of 2018 without my knowledge. The way they tricked me was when I called in to switch from FirstEnergy, by the way FirstEnergy sent letters to people in Ohio and is legal to do so and the envelope looked like junk mail, so I threw mine away without opening, and the letter stated that if you did not reply back stating that you didn't want to switch to them, that they would automatically enrol... read more

My local community has an agreement with Energy Harbor to aggregate electric services at a 3% discount. I was enrolled in the program by default. If you don't opt out, your automatically "in". I was in the pogrom for around a year when I started getting offers from other companies. I decided to switch to another provider at a lower cost per KW. A week later I got a letter from Energy Harbor saying that I owed a $25 cancellation fee. I called them to see if they would help me. I wasn't aware of the cancellation fee because I ... read more
