I don't usually write Yelp reviews, but this place is fantastic. Or at least, Matt is fantastic, the sweet guy who was there when I moved in. I was running late (which meant he had to work late), yet he didn't make a fuss about it, just helped me move in. If all the employees here are as nice as that, then Extra Space Storage has my vote for five stars!
Extra Space had a great deal for first time renters, not sure if it's still happening. First month is free, you just pay activation and insurance, plus you need a lock. First month was $30, thereafter it was $130 including tax for a 5x10 space. Facility is clean, they have multiple spots to drive your moving up to so you can unload your stuff. Extremely dissatisfied with Extra Space Storage (Long Island City, NY location). They use extremely shady advertising tactics to get prospects to sign up at an affordable, competitively priced monthly rate, then they will jack up your rate 2-3 months later! I fell for a $65 promotional price for my storage unit, when I signed up in December 2023. By March of 2024, I realized I was getting charged $100 a month. if you have been screwed by extraspace storage like me weather by fraudulently charge you extra or by forcing you to buy insurance by claiming its mandatory, please contact me at (646) 321-2331. my name is ken. we can file for a class action lawsuit which will cost you nothing. last class action suit against storage companies awarded cients of a 100 million dollars for unfair and fraudulent actions (646) 321-2331.
My father has had a unit with this company since 2014 and I'm sad to say he fell critically ill and was hospitalized in late August of this year. I took a leave of absence from work to care for him since his prognosis was so dire. While caring for him I realized he may have not been paying his storage bill so I reached out to the company to find out the status of his space. I am so glad to be gone! My storage unit flooded. Several boxes of books and a few irreplaceable items destroyed. They told me I had to haul my moldy belongings out myself and dispose of them elsewhere. There was more waterlogged stuff than my car could hold! I assumed they would repair the leak - it was clear that the water ran into my unit from another unit. I was dead wrong. A month later, my unit flooded again. Got a letter a month after moving in (and paying the move-in fee) that they were renovating and we needed to move out. Went in person and negotiated moving to a different storage unit, and lugged all of our stuff to a different space. Then, suddenly our rent was raised 35%. When I called to inquire why, I was rudely told that they were allowed to do that because it's in the lease. Really wish I had read the other reviews here saying similar things. Do not rent a storage space from this place.
