This company is the absolute worst example of unnecessary predatory price gouging I have ever seen in my entire life. I am an artist in musician doing my best to continue to live in the town I have been in over 20 years, after seeing so many amazing creatives be pushed out due to the outrageous price gouging going on everywhere in this town. But while it's all ridiculous, I would have to say that this specific extra Space storage is the absolute worse example of that. I have rented for 4+ years and my location is Santa Cruz at Fair avenue storage facility. I posted a complaint 1 month ago. They raised my rent about $50-80 per year. Homeless and tweakers roaming around constantly. However it got worse and I moved out. I made a payment by mail 3 weeks (9/16/22) ahead of time with a letter of my complaints. Note I have never been late on any payments. I pay all my bills on time. They called me to talk to me about my complaints. My rent on unit has gone up $155 in the last 12 months. I logged in to pay for October & it was $77 more a month; this after $78 increase 6 months prior. I received NO NOTICE. I called to ask if it was a mistake & received no call back. This is price gouging at a time most of us disabled seniors are stretched to try to pay for basics. I might also add the last increase I was also not given courtesy of notice. Don't put your stuff here unless you can afford an annual increase of 120%i. Storage unit was broken into within less than 24 hours of storing my stuff here. Many irreplaceable items were stolen, including a variety of guitars, amplifiers, and other electronics. No cameras in the hallways, very little urgency in Extra Space's response. Filed a police report with no hopes of quick action. Their insurance claims take forever to process and I was ghosted multiple times. Our storage unit was broken into and our belongings stolen. We were not alerted. We were offered nothing to make it right. Immediately after this we got a notice that the price would be increasing. No security and no cameras inside the building. Not secure. Don't store anything here that you want to see again.

After I spoke to an employee that I no longer needed the storage unit he said I would not have to pay. Of course I wouldn't since I already took my stuff out. He lied to me and my account has been charged. I already filed on BBB. Basically I was charged over $200 for not using the unit this month. This is outright theft. I will fight this and continue to leave reviews about this theft. Disgraceful. This business is taking advantage of people like me when it is economically difficult.

The people who work onsite have all been great. This includes Tom, Paula, Dennis and most recently, Rom. These folks have been the only reason I've stayed so long. They are kind, responsive and hardworking. I can only hope a company that's so profitable is spreading the wealth. After almost 10 years here, I've moved out. Mostly due to the lack of bathroom facilities and the CRAZY, scheduled rent hikes. While I understand the issues of public bathrooms in the city of Santa Cruz...my understanding doesn't make bringing a buck... read more

Extra Space Storage illegally drains resources from Santa Cruz County. Yes, laws protect California consumers from dramatic price hikes. Many things about storing here was great, but the check out was terrible. I have a lot more concern about Covid than their staff does, and my desire to both wear a mask and stay at least six feet away was something they didn't seem to understand. I was told not to park in one location as I started to move out, and when I finished moving out, I was told I must park in that location.
