I thought I had found an ideal storage location for my stuff. The customer service was good and the facility was clean and well maintained. Then I found out about their unethical business practices. I rented online and I took advantage of the "web special" rate. I had no idea that it was a temporary rate until I got a postcard notifying me that they were nearly doubling my monthly rate. These place is a scam! They get you with good rate, but charge you any price they want!! In few months they raised the payment few times , last payment is a double of what I originally signed up for... This is a joke , not sure how they are still in business

I originally got the unit on a really good deal, and the hours for being in the space stayed open till 10:00pm, which was great because I work in film and sometimes I need to get Into my set stuff late at night when I get off set. About two months after I moved in, they changed the hours to be 8:00pm shut off which means I can only go when I'm not on set, which sucks. Then they started raising the rent, twice. I cut a deal with this company for a one year fixed price rental. They took the money from my credit card. When I received the actual Rental Agreement, it not only did not acknowledge that my price was fixed for one year, but it said they could change my price with 30-day's notice. I contacted headquarters. I contacted the local management. No one was willing to give me anything in writing that would support our agreement for a 12-month fixed price. They gave me my money back, but how can you trust this company?

LARGE UNANNOUNCED RENT INCREASES IS A COMPANYWIDE POLICY AND TACTIC SO IT AFFECTS ALL LOCATIONS, NOT JUST THE ONE I RENTED FROM. Do not rent from Extra Space Storage. 1. Hidden in their agreement is that they can (and do) raise your rent at any time. 2. After ONE MONTH at the advertised rate that I signed up for ($167/mo) they raised it by 50%!!! 3. Well. When I first got my month to month rental lease. Not one word was said about the price of my unit fluctuating with a market value. I was under the impression my 181 dollar price was locked in for my month to month. No where in writing nor verbally was I told or informed that my unit price would increase by nearly 35%. From 181 to 243 ALLLLLLL THAT with out 1 single notice mailed to me or a phone call maid. Not even an email about the price hike. I rented a unit in August of 2021. the unit and facility was nice and clean as this is a newer building. Came back once in oct to put more things in the unit, nothing unusual or sketchy. I came back in Jan 2022 to a facility that reeks of urine, people hanging out inside and outside of the facility. And to top it all off I come to my unit with a new lock on it, odd. I got a storage unit a couple months ago. Now all of a sudden I get a notice in the mail they're increasing the rate by $30 a month. After two months. Almost feels like bait and switch. I emailed them and asked them to have someone contact me so we can discuss it and have not heard a word. If you're pricing units then you should look past extra space storage, unless you want them to jack the price up right after you get your unit And not respond when you asked to speak to someone about it. Very unprofessional
We literally were told this place was safe and always taken care of. 1st day we showed up it was clean and quite. A week after we started moving we noticed sketchy people just parked and waiting and would never put in their codes in the panel but walk in behind people who do put their codes in... and noticed people would just be walking around the storage isles looking sketchy.
