We'd been to the Palo Alto restaurant and really liked it, so it made sense to meet friends here who lived in the North Peninsula. I like the food at Rangoon Ruby and it did not disappoint. I took them down a star because we had made a reservation for 8.30pm through OpenTable. We got there before 8.30 and they made us wait and only seated us after 8.50pm. The lady at the front desk did not seem very concerned and only later came over and apologized for making us wait that long. Once we were seated, the wait staff were very nice and attentive and the evening went well.

The tea leaf salad was good and so is the soogi but I don't find the pumpkin chicken stew interesting - quite bland! Quantity is quite small like French cuisine and cost quite expensive! Our server is quite good and attentive though but I don't think I will come back. Need to go somewhere else to get full.

I was so excited to try Rangoon Ruby after checking out the menu on-line. Unfortunately the food was very mediocre. I went with a group of people so we ordered 5 different dishes. The best by far was the shrimp curry. It had the most flavor and the shrimp was not battered or deep fried. The sesame chicken was battered and so overcooked that it was chewy. We found Burmese Cuisine not to our taste. We had a lovely waitress, Kim, who made suggestions to us since we were unfamiliar with most of the food. Unfortunately, we found the entrees quite foreign to our taste buds and therefore did not enjoy our meal. Many people have recommended Rangoon Ruby(and many of the diners present seemed to relish their meals) and we think those who wish to experience different fares, may really enjoy the restaurant.

The food at Rangoon Ruby's was good - full of flavor. But there are too many tables pushed close together, and the noise level is unbearable. We could not talk to our fellow diners across the table, and couldn't wait to leave the restaurant. This really spoiled our dining experience. We've enjoyed this restaurant in Palo Alto, but I wouldn't recommend going to the San Carlos location with friends. Sorry to give this negative review. The management needs to muffle the sounds booing off the floor and walls.
