Two stars for nice people and colorist. Color got worse as the days and weeks went on. And fried. A step above home color. Tiny step.

First and foremost, the staff was incredibly nice. A star for that. But, my hair is orange now when I was going for blonde. They blamed it on the lighting in the salon, but when I got out in the natural light, it was even more orange. I waited a while to see if it was something I could grow to like, but it was all a waste of money. Not to mention I spent double what was originally planned because everything is so itemized. I had been waiting for this place to open for months. I dye my hair because I have lots of grays unfortunately (been dying since I was 18). So I'm always looking for a good, inexpensive place to apply the same color as my roots. I went a day or two after they opened. I had a very good experience. Staff was friendly. Price was right. But the color was too dark. And now I get ads from Madison reed on Facebook and insta and their "after" colors are all too dark and don't look good! I'm like--this is the after?? I've had an appointment here set for over a month excited to find a place that exclusively does roots & gloss. Unfriendly staff, didn't reach out until a day before my appointment to tell me that they can't color my roots because I have extensions(which is ridiculous because they are virgin human hair & several nyc salons have been able to color different sets in the past) which shouldn't be a problem anyway because I'm having them removed & replaced as it's the end of the set(which I explained multiple times). OK, i was pretty disappointed. i came in with a little shock of grey hair in the front of my head, i spent an hour and a half with an extremely sweet and pleasant colorist. and i left with hair that feels like straw and very slightly less gray hair in the front of my head. the colorist colored my hair and left me at the "self-serve" table - which is a table in front of a mirror with hair dryers and a couple of hairbrushes that have lots of hair in them. basically, it's like a chinese nail salon. they do a quick and sloppy jo... read more

Glad I tried it but won't be going back. My appointment started fifteen minutes late and ran a half hour over the length stated when I booked it, all to then have to blow dry your own hair (or wait for a blowout). The gloss made my hair shinier but did not have a noticeable impact on tone - the goal was to neutralize brass and go ashier but my hair was just a bit darker with a red tint. I am so bummed that i used this haircolor.You could not pay me ever to use this haircolor!.I had been using one from Sallys beauty supply called ion that was a light neutral brown with very very little red in it but because it faded faster than i liked i decided to give madison a try....The gal assured me there was no red in this..Well i found out that was not true so i called and they sent me a new box free of a neutral brown and said there would be NO red overtones and once again there was...I have been using color myself ... read more

I've been coloring my hair for 30 years. I have brown hair and it's just past shoulder length and about 70% gray only around my face. It's thick and wavy. I went to Madison and Reed Color Bar for a root touch up. The colorist I had picked a shade that I thought was too dark. I told her I did not want my hair to come out dark and looking black.
