The sarmusas and the whole pan-seared fish were great It has been a while since I ate at Mandalay although I was a regular there for years. It was such a gem in the past I hope it remains good. One of my LA friends liked it so much that he once drove up all the way mostly to eat there. The sarmusas ('samosa' to Indians), crisp, triangular pastries...
Heaven for veg and non-veg alike After cruising the Golden Buddha on Clement and finding it closed, my friend and I remembered nearby Mandalay on California St. Though it doesn't look like much from the outside, the inside is beautifully decorated and packed with happy customers. Many of the dishes on the menu can be made without meat, and several more stand on their own as...
Gosh, I miss Mandalay Beef For 18 months I dated someone living in San Francisco whilst I made my home in London. Mandalay was the nearest restaurant to our San Francisco digs and we ate take-out about once a week. The interior is charming if a little cliched, but being a few doors down we always took our order home with us. I'd say that...
Another option to the always-crowded Burma Super Star, but not inferior in any way. For the appetizer, try their signature tea leaf salad and chicken lettuce cups. Highlights of their main entrees include Rangoon Beef, Walnut Prawns, and their Mandalay Special Noodles. Service is always hospitable and warm.
Tasty and Terrific Although not a sophisticate when it comes to Burmese food I've really enjoy Mandalay, which is every bit as good -- probably better than the relatively nearby B Star and Burma Superstar. Somewhat of a fusion of Thai, Chinese and other South East Asian cuisines, Mandalay's food was terrific, the service superb, and we all left saying we have to...
Great food, book ahead Lovely place with great food, very reasonable prices especially I thought for the wine. All the food was tasty and good, there was a crowd and it was full so book ahead, but it was definitely worth it.
Mandalay is a delicious Burmese restaurant in the Richmond, the perfect alternative for those who don't want to wait in line for Burma Superstar. The food is fantastic and the staff are friendly. I highly recommend a nice evening at this ambient restaurant.
Fabulous Food, Gracious Service The food here is excellent. And the service is great--the waitress patiently answered all of our questions and never seemed rushed. The staff is very attentive but not ingratiating. The presentation is lovely. The Tea Leaf Salad is delicious. The waitress brings out a plate with about 8 items (none of them seem like what we associate with salad), explains...
Asian food Our first time for burmese food, great tasting and interesting, definitely will try again next time we visit San Francisco.
