Poor quality printing and copying Poor resolution, with washed out colors. The black appears medium gray. The print quality is not acceptable for a printer that apparently retails for $130. My $60 HP printer in the early 1990's had better print quality than this printer. The only reason I didn't give it 1 star is because it is a nice compact design, with easy to insert ink cartridges, although the paper tray is rather flimsy. I returned it 2 days after it arrived for a refund.
Worst printer ever! I have had a home office since 1996 and have bought several printers, all-in-one, colour, although I have a separate fax machine. I received the printer from Amazon.com last night at 6:00 p.m., and proceeded to install it immediately because I had documents that needed to be printed urgently. I printed the test page FOUR TIMES, but the yellow colour was always completely missing. I followed the instructions to "clean" the printer heads, to no avail. All the manufacturers of the printers I previously owned... read more
IT IS the worst printer despite CR High scores It did nothing right. asking for more ink all the time, Three hours of work with Amazon support did not help.
Always Off line The printer was off line when I went to print 8 out of 10 times. If you want a wireless printer chose something else. Almost every time I had to print something I had to turn the printer off and turn it back on (this didn't always work on the first try and the process needed to be repeated often). Calling Brother support was useless, as they advised me to make sure it was selected as my default printer. Purchased it Oct 7 and tossed it in the garbage on Dec 29th. I had enough.
Do not buy brothers printers I mostly use black ink to print documents I don't print color pictures or color documents. When I ran out all the colors including black it forces you to buy all the other colors if not it will not let you print in black in white. It has an option to print black and white but it will not let you print.
Business response:
So why do other brand ink jet printers allow user to continue B&W printing when a color cartridge is empty? Your answer makes no sense... neither does a printer that does not allow user to print when ink is available.

Business response:
It's all opinion. Learn English. Otherwise, your thinking will be stifled. "{I]mho" - What, as opposed to your "dhop" (dishonest opinion? I won't elucidate you on your inability to express your difficulty with English, but if you want to think better, improve you vocabulary, and don't us baby-talk to express your - you know - OPINION. Typos I can abide, but unclear, non-succinct expression points to a lazy mind.
INK don't buy this printer uses ink like there is no tomorrow. I does not print the amt. of pages that it claims.

can't make work with linux Save yourself time, aggravation, and make the world a better place: don't buy a brother printer! Useful gentoo linux instructions may be somewhere available -- those brother provides are worthless imho -- but such seem to be well hidden, impossibly cryptic, or woefully incomplete (most likely all three). After a week of failure, my best guess is the perl script brother_lpdwrapper_mfcj895dw is somehow involved and somehow broken. If any gentoo ninja can make it go as a networked printer (with net-pr... read more
Business response:
I disagree. I have been using Brother printers exclusively in my office and home, and my family's homes. They have various faults here and there I'll admit, but what printer manufacturer doesn't? Because it doesn't work with one small market/share operating system when the operator admits to needing "overly detailed and ridiculously complete instructions", that's most likely not the manufacturer's fault. I'm not trying to disparage you, merely point out that your review wasn't really fair, and seemed one born more out of fru... read more
