This is a very limited capability printer First of all, there's no way to just scan from the machine to a new Apple. You have to go into AirPrint and tell it to scan after you have loaded everything up and put it all into the document feeder. When this finally gets around to doing it, it does it crookedly. Another really neat trick was it randomly putting some old scanned file into the multiple pages of a PDF. That's not reassuring at all. Now I have to sit and double check each page that I scanned. Brother Printer doesn't print! I received my Brother printer last week and finally set it up yesterday. First of all, I was very surprised that it only came with starter ink. Who sells a PRINTER with only starter ink? But now I've used nearly all the starter ink on the "Print Quality Check Sheet" and I still can't get a good quality print with the black ink. I bought this Brother printer on the recommendation of Consumer Reports. So now, I not only DON'T recommend the Brother printer, I don't recommend Consumer Reports.
Won't take non Brother ink cartriges One reason I bought the Brother was that it appeared that it would allow other ink mfg's. The cartriges I bought were not accepted; programmed to non accept anything but Brother ink
The ink sent is dried up and doesn't t print. So I can't evaluate the whole printer. I dislike trying to set it up and not having ink to do it. I actually bought "compatible" ink, but it doesn't work on this machine, so I am not sure where to get ink for it. I will reevaluate if the printer if it seems to work well after this is solved.
Poor print quality from an ink drinking beast While it's easy to set up. It drinks ink. The print quality is substandard at best. When I took the first print, I was confused about the lack of color or the sharpness of text on the test sheet. Ever since then the printer has been through one set of ink cartridges and the print quality still sucks. Overall I would NOT recommend.
Price reflects work-ability Not very much choice in sizing copy. Would like change in % . Quality of print is satisfactory for little home printing I do, have setting on BEST quality.
Very disappointed in printer and support I bought this as an addition to my laser printer in a house with 3 computers. It worked great for almost 2 months and then none of the computers, 2 Macs and 1 PC, could find it on the wireless network, even though everything on the network was working fine, the printer showed as being connected, and my other printer worked fine. The worst printer I ever owned. It consistently fails at printing and scanning.
Won't connect to WiFi - Requires unusual USB wire connection not supplied It is impossible to get my new MFC-J895DW connected to the WiFi system in my apartment complex. The apartment's WiFi system requires input of a username and password, but the Brother printer setup thinks it's connected as soon as I enter the WiFi name (SSID).
