This place is a gem in the middle of the Gaslamp district! Best italian in San Diego! The place is the oldest Italian restaurant in downtown and the food is consistently great! Wine menu is impressive, had a bottle of Amarone to pair with our Ossobuco and Lamb raviolis... Yum! No wonder is a place I keep coming back for more.

We really enjoyed the experience here. Our server was a delight and the staff seemed to move in sync, despite the very busy evening. Watching the tables turn was like watching a well rehearsed dance. The food was wonderful and not too heavy, if that is possible for italian cuisine. My only nit was the proximity of the dining tables and the small size of our 2 top. Our guests next to us were very loud in their conversation. :)
Osteria Panevino has been a great Italian restaurant for more than 20 years at the same location, and with the same owners. I recommend you go with the tried and true gem on 5th Avenue - Osteria Panevino. The menu has been updated and the food is excellent. The service has always been attentive and professional. I have always asked our server for recommendations and she has consistently hit the target. This is a "can't miss" choice for lunch or dinner, special occasion, or just a night out in the Gaslamp.
Looking for some place to eat before the theater and did not disappoint. All your reviews were great and the menus were authentic Italiano! They even special order a pasta not on the menu. Very quaint and private - great for singles couples and families alike. We will be back! The service was extraordinary - better than most 5 star rated restaurants.
