We were disappointed with our meal here. Lobster ravioli was bland with a rich cream sauce. Spaghetti with clams, while tasty with heavy garlic and oil, the spaghetti was hard and the clams very small. Our waiter seemed indifferent and ignored us. Service was extremely slow and we had a long wait for our check and needed to hand it to another waiter to pay with credit card.
The service was good but the food was only average. The place was really crowded and the noise level inside was too load to have a conversation. Outside on the patio was better.
My hotel had a deal with the restaurant for a free appetizer-so we went. Our waiter was both rude and pushy. The food tasted liked something from a cheaper restaurant.
Not terrible but just ok. Expensive for the food. Veal was tough and hard to cut and at nearly $40 a mistake to order. Same with the Ossa Buco, also nearly $40. Service was fine. Nice ambiance. Just keep your expectations for the food in check. Kind of like most Gaslamp places in that respect.
The food was pretty terrible. The chicken was overly salty (I wouldn't have been able to eat it), the asparagus hugely oily, and the lasagna pasta really overcooked and sloppy. The waiter, while very attentive, had terrible breath! An expensive night out with very average food.
In the NY metro area, OsteriA Panevino would not survive. It's really average food at prices that are high by even NY standards. I can get a better chicken parm at my local pizzeria. I guess in San Diego, they think it's great. First sign of trouble was the hostess soliciting customers off the street. Nothing cries desperation more. Second sign of trouble was the bread, pane literally means bread. Italian bread is normally amazing, not here. Ordered the cheese plate, which in California usually means artisan type. Not here, ... read more
The food was pretty pricey here for the dishes being mediocre. (Totellinni Alla Panna & Linguine With Seafood). Only the clams & sauce tasted good. The Meat Tortellini was bland. They gave you large portions but we didnt care to finish. Nice and comfortable outdoor seating. The service was good but I would not return.
Although dishes are rendered fairly ok, the recipes are so old world. Lots of cream, thin tomato sauces, and a lack of distinction in things we ordered.
Everything on the men sounded yummy but what a disappointment. We were there for dinner New Year's day and they had specials that I swear were using the leftovers from New Years Eve. Terrible risotto that they smothered in mozzarella and baked in the oven. I had the ragu that was so bland it was pretty much tasteless.
