Polaris G52 Back-up Valve Assembly. This is a factory original Polaris replacement back up valve. It has a timer mechanism inside that diverts water out of a jet every 5-10 minutes. This jet acts as a back up, pulling the cleaner out from the pool floor or wall. There is an arrow on one side of the hose barb that should face towards the cleaner. Exact replacement for Polaris 280 back-up valve My old Polaris 280 back-up valve self-destructed, which unfortunately seems all too common. It literally broke in half, with the upper portion hanging on by a flap created where the upper and lower half screw together. Happily, this valve was an exact replacement that worked perfectly. Everything I needed was included. I simply removed the old valve, installed the new valve and the system was back to normal. Recommended!

Ingenious Idea For a Motor Inside is not much more than a staged reduction gear set that drives a disc with a hole. When the disc aligns with a port the water is forced out the side hole providing the jet force that moves the sweeper. I think it's overpriced, but given economy of scale, I understand why they're somewhat expensive. I'd like to see a longer life cycle, since it's the finer grit in the water that wears out the bearing surfaces in the gear train, and the inline filter only takes out the leaves and rocks.
