I made reservations at the Redeye Grill for an important business dinner. Upon arrival I asked the host to seat me at a quiet table. He did, but shortly after my table's food was served, loud piano playing started within just a few feet of us. The noise was very disruptive to our conversation. The manager, Robin, listened to my complaint after the dinner, and apologized. She also offered to send me her phone number or email so that I could contact her directly - and be assured of a nice and quiet table for my next business m... read more
We were very disappointed in this restaurant. The first impression upon arrival was a high noise level and a strong smell of fish. I had grilled scallops, which were presented on a bare white plate with a half lemon and four pencil thin, tough asparagus. I would be willing to bet a lot of ice passed through the martini I was served! I could go on, but suffice to say we will not be back. With so many great restaurants in NYC, this one can easily be passed up.
Very expensive restaurant, but food was very slow getting to us. They must have trouble in the kitchen. Also, their bread was nearly in edible. Service did not meet the standards for this level of restaurant. Will not return or recommend.
We've been here many, many times over the years. The restaurant looks beautiful with the renovations to the bar and other improvements. Service was truly excellent. But the food was really disappointing. We had the lobster chopped salad. It was absolutely mediocre. I have had this salad at this restaurant for at least 20 years. It has all the ingredients and none of the flavor or spark of the original. Sad to say, we won't be going back.
This was our third trip to the Redeye. The server was pre-occupied with something other than our table of six. There was a vocal disagreement at check-in between staff members. Specialty beers were at a minimum. Maybe because it was a Sunday evening, the restaurant was unable to make a number of speciality cocktails. We were told they were out of an ingredient. What was a very good experience in the past, has turned lackluster. If not for the food rescuing the evening, I would have lowered the star rating.
Ambience is good but the food is very mediocre. I would not return and would not recommend it to a friend.
Expensive, with limited "middle ground" menu items. Few salads. Bar area seems fine.
typical NYC overrated and over priced, with below avg food. they served stale pretzel bread, out of two dozen oysters ordered which came to $84 only about 12 were good and then the food came out so fast like it was already prepared, very strange, not what I expected.
Noise level too high. Used to schedule business lunches here often for their delicious cobb salad but this time the salad was very disappointing. The dressing was different (w/o being offered a choice), the mashed avocado was spicy, the chicken cubes didn't look like real meat. We ordered cappacino with skim milk and got decaf.
