If you are considering this club for water aerobics or lap swimming do a free membership test drive. Consistent, comfortable water temperature is the worst. Wifi pool thermometers are readily available, Rio uses the Magic 8 Ball. Along with live water bugs, duck droppings and human diaper mishaps in the pool waters, pool heaters and spa regularly break down for days at a time with parts on order from Timbuktu.com. Cheap-cheap on the maintenance and management talent. If someone burps in Brooklyn it's too windy to apply t... read more
This place is having an identity crisis. There is major discontent brewing between the original members and the young families who have more recently joined. Rio seems to not be able to control the original members or please them and the result is that they tend to lash out at kids around the club and stuff the complaint box. Problem is, Rio actually does what they demand. For example, they have a policy that children 4 and up may not walk through the locker of the opposite sex. Meaning, in order to get to the pool, my 4 yea... read more
This business is a terrible neighbor. They use an ear splitting PA system to broadcast swim meets, beginning as early as 8:00 a.m. (including weekends). It goes on all day . Repeated complaints to the club from nearby residents have been ignored.
My entire family and I are members of Rio del Oro since 1995. We also recommended membership to our friends and some join. With a great deal of regret I have to notify that the place WAS super ones, but is steadily going DOWN. Very poor maintenance in the area of hygiene and sanitary standards. Men showers drain and men steam room floor are so dirty and slimy. Kids bring residue of dirt, grass and rocks at the jacuzzi and swimming pool. Water is hard and accumulates calcium/magnesium deposits, clogging the new shower heads. ... read more

Hello Daniel, Thank you for reaching out to us and providing your feedback. We'd like to thank you for your continued membership and let you know that we appreciate you as a member. However, we are sorry to hear that your experience at our club falls short of your expectations. We have passed your review along to our corporate management and the club management for further review. We take every member request to heart and discuss each internally. Each year we set aside a budget for facility upgrades. We are having an inter... read more
A few years back and as a paying member, I shouldn't have to go across the street to play tennis while the men's and women's Sacramento state team are playing at the main club for free. This was happening too often for my taste so I dropped my membership. Don't know about now so I might join again just to test them out. Also, they don't have either the wet or dry saunas which would be awesome in the winter. Otherwise nice club.

Hello Le V., Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience at our club falls short of your expectations. Rio Del Oro Racquet Club is welcoming to all families and is very supportive of community events; we do have busier times, however, there are plenty of opportunities for members who are not involved in a specific club (swim/tennis) to utilize our facilities. We apologize again for your past experience and hope that you can reconsider Rio Del Oro Racquet Club in the futu... read more
Very expensive athletic club that is poorly managed with broken equipment never getting replaced. It's too expensive for the low quality you receive.

It is our mission to take great care of all of our members, giving them extraordinary customer service to ensure they have the best experience possible. We have passed your review along with your comments and concerns to our corporate management and the club management. Each year we set aside a budget for facility upgrades. This is not a club for adults. The entire club is dedicated to childrens programs. Adults are an after thought. I have been a member at Rio for many years and much to my chagrin the kid programs are growing. Don't even consider getting into one of the fabulous pools (they have 2). The weight room is good with 2 squat racks and free weights. But don't go after 5pm. The "functional fitness" class uses the free weights & so I am left with nothing. BTW functional fitness cost more! the weight room is generally a mess with stuff ... read more

Hello C.K. Thank you for reaching out to us with your feedback. We're sorry to hear that you are having some frustrations with some of the other members. We try very hard to accommodate all of our guests, families and adult members. Rio del Oro is a family club and we do cater to serve this audience, however we do understand that we have adult members who do not have children. For these members we do have several activities such as tennis, group exercise, masters swimming and more. We are happy to provide you with additio... read more
Craig, forgive me, but I see that your fall pool schedule is available. It appears that from 6-7 pm Monday through Friday there is exactly ONE lane not dedicated to swim practice or masters swim. Am I reading that right? So to swim after work one would have to be lucky enough to nab the one lane or be out of the pool, in other words done with their workout by 6 or not begin swimming until 7pm. For a club with 14 lanes this is pretty lame. If I'm wrong please do educate me. Thanks.
Business response:
Hi J., Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback on Yelp! Our primary concern is ensuring that our members have a positive experience at our club, and we have a strict pool schedule to provide that. We have a USA/Year Round team here at Rio. In the summer, they swim in the mornings at Clunie, where we rent space to avoid over crowdedness. Youth swimming is an important part of our club, but as the signs on deck state, lanes will be provided for adults, and if one isn't visible, approach a coach and they will acce... read more
We tried this place out on a friend's Groupon last year. Yuck. I checked out their website--which had (and still has) some grammar issues--we should have known then, lol! The wading pool was nice for our youngest but the other pools were not as nice The place seemed dated and in places kind of old. Some of the areas with carpet, while clean, were stained, the court we played on wasn't really all that great, though some of them might be, we only played on the one. The backboard was inconveniently placed. The kid's club ... read more

Hi Tina, Thank you for reaching out to us on Yelp. We are sorry to hear your perception of Rio Del Oro Racquet Club. We'd like to touch on a couple of the issues you mentioned. Our Kids Club was renovated this past March; the renovations included a fitness area. This summer we hosted a Kids Camp every week and we hold weekly fitness challenges for the youth. Beginning next week, we will be rolling out a Fall After School Sports Program - youth fitness is an extremely important aspect of our club. A handful of our tennis c... read more
