I'm reviewing this club from the point of view of a parent with kids aged 5 and 13. This club has served our needs well, primarily for the positive community for family activities, especially those related to the various swim teams. The swim coaches take a refreshingly positive approach so kids develop a love for swimming at whatever level of competition is appropriate for the individual. Our 13 year old has formed close friendships with peers who appreciate having healthy physical activities in their daily routine.

I am a substitute instructor for group exercise classes at Rio, so my perspective is a bit unique in that respect, as I'm not a member of the club and have limited exposure to it. However, from my personal experience at Rio, I LOVE the group exercise room; the flooring was installed to replace the carpeting within the last couple of years, and it is great to exercise on! I have to say that this is the best club I have belonged to. The people who work here are very nice, the pools are spectacular, the tennis courts are in tip top condition and best of all, the members are wonderful. We initially joined like manh others do, just for the summer, to enjoy the three pools. We have been members of Rio Del Oro for 7 years now and there is no place I'd rather work out or have my kids grow up. They have a caring, friendly staff that is laid back but professional at the same time. My kids learned to swim in the pools, and have made great friends in the toddler aged kids club. I love that they don't just keep the TV on as the "baby sitter" and that the kids club staff actively engages with both of my children. I've been a member since 2005 and when I looked up Rio on Google to find the phone number, I was shocked at the overall low rating. I have NEVER written a yelp review before, but I felt compelled to share how much I love this gym. I have two kids and Rio is a family friendly gym. Their swim team is great, their kids tennis programs are great, now that my kids are old enough I can put them upstairs in kids club for free if I need to when I work out. I'm only here on a two week trial membership because of a certificate I got. So far, I'm really impressed with the number of kids activities they have going on here during the summer. Tennis lessons, swimming lessons, a huge kids pool table area upstairs near the kids club. It has a lot going for it. IF you can afford the membership fee. It's got a great family atmosphere here. We love it at RDO! My son and I are new to Sacramento and within days we have meet nice people to start friendships with, my son loves the kids club and pool. I have enjoyed the classes. We are enjoying ourselves. Unlike previous comments, I have not experienced anything but positive here. I joined for the summer because my kids wanted to swim there with some of their friends. It was pricy. The pools are nice. I appreciated that they were not over-chlorinated but were always clean. What didn't sit well with me was: 1) This is a fitness club, right? Yet the snack bar is full of crappy junk food. If I wanted to feed the kids lunch, there were lovely choices like hot dogs, slushies, and microwave pizzas. This place is awesome. I go to Rio a few times a week, do a workout and soak in spa after. Then the steamer every so often. Its like my second home. My daughters in the daycare and really enjoys it. Ive been to other gyms and really like this one. I recommend Rio to a lot of my friends and to anyone looking around.
