Nurse Kerry is my life saver. She is one of the first nurses that I remember meeting when I first got here and was going through detox. She brought me some clothes and made sure I had shoes. I only came to River Oaks with one bag of clothes. Now I have two duffle bags of clothes to take home with me and start my new life. I love yall.
Keita the TA is very helpful. She was able to relate to me and I found out that we have a lot in common. She's always pleasant and she's real funny. Wherever she's at she is always laughing. She is so enthusiastic and full of energy. It makes it more comfortable to be in a place like this. She even joined the clients for karaoke and she helped us to have fun and enjoy ourselves in recovery. I learned that its possible to have fun with people without needing to get high, that was such an important realization.
Tarshay is just special. She was the first person I met when I got here to River Oaks. She goes above and beyond as far as talking to me during my first week and making sure I was ok. She has been very inspirational to me and makes sure I get where I'm going and what I need. Its so good to know I have that kind of support and someone that cares and I can depend on. Ever since she made me smile that first day I've been smiling ever since. I learned how not to worry so much and Ive been much happier ever since.
The teachers love their jobs. Olivia is very enthusiastic and brings a lot of laughter to the class. I like the materials she shares, like today we talked about an interesting topic that helped me understand why Im here. She gets a lot of class participation and we discussed boundaries and how to focus on our own recovery and not other peoples recovery. Anthony in the kitchen is warm and corteous. He always give me a little bit extra food. He pays attention to the clients and makes sure I am eating so I can gain some weight. I have put on some weight and I'm feeling much more healthy. He always makes sure every body is doing what they are supposed to be doing and takes control of his line to make sure we have what we need.
Rosie puts so much passion into her work, you can tell she loves her job because she goes above and beyond her job title. She makes everything smell so nice and sweeps and cleans everything. She always makes my day because she stops to to say hi and greets me with a smile. She's a wonderful lady. I watched her clean up the dorm and she is always so professional.
Dr. Rahman is wonderful, she's my personal psych doctor here at River Oaks. She has a real warm spirit and is very understanding. She has helped me to realize that I had a problem. One night I had a bad dream and when I explained it to her and she comforted me and consoled me. She let me know that everything was going to be ok. She shared her own personal experience to help me know that Im not alone and what Im going through was normal. I have really enjoyed our conversations. All the nurses are nice but Ms. Kathy has a lot of patience with us. I was having an anxiety attack and I didnt know what was going on, my blood pressure shot all the way up and she sat with me. She told me what was happening to my body and helped me do some breathing techniques and have me some medicine that calmed me down. She took my blood pressure, I didnt even know what an anxiety attack was but she was so helpful explaining to me how to pause and calm down. The therapists are so funny, Karah's classes always bring literature to help us remember what she's talking about and use it for later. She definitely us awake cos she has so many good jokes. She talks about how to recognize my triggers and to have a plan for relapse prevention by teaching us about boundaries and making sure we know how to deal with our family members once we leave here. I really enjoy her hand outs. I wish more of the classes were like hers.
