We had an inspection with Kevin Sprague who pointed out a couple problems with the electrical system on a home we were buying. When we had an actual electrician come out to get the repairs done, they discovered that the work done by the previous owners was not just shoddy and potentially dangerous, but outright illegal. The true severity of the problem was not brought to our attention during the Scott Home inspection, causing us to be uninformed during the purchase of the house.

Electrical items can be hard to evaluate fully in the time allotted for a home inspection and further severity can be uncovered later by an electrician. Scott Home did my pre-purchase inspection. They missed basic items, particularly with the faulty electrical system in the house and several rooms not having ducts for heating. They became defensive and refused to work with me on these issues, immediately pointing to the limit on liability in the contract. Their bad work cost me thousands of dollars. I do *not* recommend Scott Home Inspections.
This is a review for the scheduling and customer service aspects of this company. We would have liked to hire one of their inspectors because their example inspection report was very thorough, and we were impressed with their website. When this happens, the primary inspector is selected, but many of the additional services they ordered (radon test, sewer scope, mold testing, water testing, etc) are performed by a secondary inspector. Would not recommend. Many visible items were not picked up on during this pre-purchase inspection. Examples included leaking faucets, recent water damage to ceiling, bird's nest in fireplace flue, water remaining in dishwasher after run, etc. My concerns were quickly dismissed by their customer service.

My family purchased a home that Scott Home Inspection did the home inspection for and we have had about $50k worth of damage as a result of them not noticing the issue. We are aware of who this person is, and he did not get his own home inspection prior to purchasing his home, and relied on an old report that was done for another client. It is unfortunate that he is experiencing concerns with the home he purchased, but he is not our client and we have never done any work for him. We had our home inspected by Scott (Tod, I believe) and unfortunately there were some pretty significant things that were missed. Most notably, the entire crown on our chinmey needs to be replaced. The pictures in the report clearly showed this, and when I got on the roof just a few months after purchasing the home, I could obviously see the concrete was cracked and brick showing through. I would rate a 0 if that were an option, but it's not. I would NOT recommend Scott Home Inspections to anyone. Their inspector missed a bowed and cracked foundation wall in the inspection of the house we were buying in Estes Park. These issues were visible at the time of inspection but he failed to note them. Shortly after the purchase we discovered the problem because a painter saw it. I called the company and they sent their inspector back out to document the issue.
