Our first inspection by Scott's was excellent. Extremely detailed & in depth. That's why we came back. The most recent one was a different story. The inspector seemed to gloss over many things & tried to downplay issues without evidence. We were called prior & told our inspector would take only two hours to finish an inspection that normally takes longer -- I think he glossed over many things as a result. Specifics we found after moving in that a visual inspection should have caught: * An interior door on the second floor... read more

So. The original service was great. Quick, easy, and got good results. However. We finally moved into the house they inspected and there are leaks everywhere that were not noted on inspection. When I looked through it all, the images of where the leaks are show that there really wasn't an inspection, as there was stuff from the previous homeowners covered everything. We will have to replace over $6k of things in order to correct the leaks between bathrooms and the kitchen. Pretty disappointed on that.

We recently did a home inspection on a house that we are considering purchasing. The primary home inspector did his inspection and then quickly went through his checklist. He didn't really seem to be very aware and knowledgeable about much of anything at all and I would never use him again. There was a loose pipe in one of the sinks and I said, "oh, did you try tightening it" and he replied, "no, that's not my job". This is just a poor attitude and this was only one thing. Several things like the roof couldn't be inspec... read more

I have to rescind my initial rating. After being in the house for a year I can no longer recommend this company. I'm now dealing with foundation issues because they missed that my gutters were a complete disaster. Every gutter person who comes by says they are the worst gutter install they have ever seen, water is basically going straight down into the foundation which has in a year caused my exterior and interior walls to crack significantly among other issues. They didn't check the shower pan on my tiled shower so I have... read more

It is 30 days post closing on my house in Gunbarrel. I now have the burden of financing the repair of: 1. Leaking tub drain which damaged the ceiling below requiring drywall repair. The ceiling was wet the day after closing and the inspector did not catch it. 2. Leaking kitchen sink drain that was improperly installed and leaking into the cabinet. 3. Main sewer line back up after sewer scope which found nothing. Fortunately I discovered the back up before it damaged the carpet. This is in addition to a litany of electrica... read more

We had an inspection with Kevin Sprague who pointed out a couple problems with the electrical system on a home we were buying. When we had an actual electrician come out to get the repairs done, they discovered that the work done by the previous owners was not just shoddy and potentially dangerous, but outright illegal. The true severity of the problem was not brought to our attention during the Scott Home inspection, causing us to be uninformed during the purchase of the house.

Business response:

I am sorry to hear of the concerns that you have been experiencing post-inspection. We strive to be as thorough as we can in the course of a home inspection. Electrical items can be hard to evaluate fully in the time allotted for a home inspection and further severity can be uncovered later by an electrician. If your inspection was less than 100 days ago, reach out to us about our limited warranty information.

Scott Home did my pre-purchase inspection. They missed basic items, particularly with the faulty electrical system in the house and several rooms not having ducts for heating. They became defensive and refused to work with me on these issues, immediately pointing to the limit on liability in the contract. Their bad work cost me thousands of dollars. I do *not* recommend Scott Home Inspections.

This is a review for the scheduling and customer service aspects of this company. We would have liked to hire one of their inspectors because their example inspection report was very thorough, and we were impressed with their website. We are disappointed about what transpired that caused us to cancel altogether. We selected our inspector, a package, and a specific date and time from their listed availability. Later they emailed forms requesting a signature confirmation. We noticed on these forms that they'd assigned us a d... read more

Business response:

We are very sorry to hear of the concerns outlined by this client. The client had ordered multiple inspection services from us via our online scheduling option. When this happens, the primary inspector is selected, but many of the additional services they ordered (radon test, sewer scope, mold testing, water testing, etc) are performed by a secondary inspector. In the course of setting up the inspection, we proceed with determining available time slots for each of the additional services they requested. Some tests requir... read more

Would not recommend. Many visible items were not picked up on during this pre-purchase inspection. Examples included leaking faucets, recent water damage to ceiling, bird's nest in fireplace flue, water remaining in dishwasher after run, etc. My concerns were quickly dismissed by their customer service.

Business response:

I'm sorry that you experienced concerns with your inspection. We did reach out to you last October with a thoughtful response to help review your concerns, and had not heard back from you. We do everything we can to provide a thorough inspection, and if any concerns develop, to respond to the specific items. Your feedback is appreciated to help us improve and do better. We have reached out again privately to try to resolve things.
