Standard Water replaced our basement's sump pump and drain tile system with a modern, high quality system. While I am satisfied with the final product, I was not happy about how they completed the work. One of the workers came into my house smelling of alcohol, the foreman required that I remove the floorboards when the salesman/president told me at the time of signing a contract that this would not be necessary for me to do and they left the walls and appliances in the basement covered in mud. Perhaps this is to be expected... read more

I am truly sorry we didn’t meet this member’s expectation. We at Standard Water Control Systems take pride in our company and service. We go the extra mile to take care of our customers, giving them all the information they need to make an informed decision. We try very hard not to raise their expectation as to the amount of mess we make. In fact, in our DVD we show just how big of a job installing draintile is; it’s a downright dirty work. During a typical job we haul 20 tons of dirt, concrete and gravel in and out the wind... read more
I have used Standard Water Control to resolve two water issues in the past. The first project was in 1996 where two inches of water flooded the lower level of the New Hope property in the spring thaw. Standard Water Control came to the rescue and installed the trench and drainage system on the whole perimeter of the lower level. The system works with no water issues to this day. So in 2002 when water flooded the basement of our South Minneapolis property I didn?t hesitate in calling Standard Water Control to resolve the prob... read more

Thank you for your kind words about Standard Water Control! It makes us feel good to know we've done a good job for you. Best Wishes, Mike Hogenson President, Standard Water Control Systems, Inc.
Showed up a couple hours late. Whatever was in their wheelbarrow that they cleaned out in our front yard killed a patch of grass. Also, the basement was filthy when they were done. But they did smash our old laundry tub and got rid of it - which was nice of them. They weren't great - but they did the job. Not sure if we would use them again. Installed drain tiles in laundry room and bathroom. We already had a sump pump.
I received several bids and thought that they had the most professional presentation. I was also drawn to the awards that they had received. But the experience did not go well. They cut out a large hole in one of the walls in my basement without making me aware of the operation. They left the basement very unclean. When I called the manager of the company, he would only offer me $25 to repair the hole in the wall. He was very rude and patronizing. I now have to completely redo the walls in the basement because they no longer... read more
Given the rep. of this company, my experience, has thus far been disappointing. The person who came to meet with me the first time (polite, seemingly competent) measured my basement and told me what would happen including where the pipe would exit the house and what I needed to do to prepare. When the workers arrived to do the work, I was told that the pipe would have to exit in a different place because of the baseboard heating system in my basement. The baseboard heating system in my basement was there during the estimate.... read more
The repairman was punctual and efficient. However, he installed a Little Giant 6-CIA pump, which list prices for $239.00, and can be bought for $120.00-$140.00 on the Internet, and charged me $300.00 for the pump, another $20.00 for a check valve, and another $100.00 for installation/truck charge. What a rip! It took him 1/2 hour max to install it. Replaced a sump pump.
Business response:
THE MEMBER CALLED OUR EMERGENCY LINE ON A SUNDAY AND LEFT A MESSAGE THAT HER SUMP PUMP HAD FAILED. HER CALL WAS RETURNED IN LESS THAN FIFTEEN MINUTES. WE OFFERED TO COME OUT AND REPLACE HER PUMP THAT VERY DAY BUT IT WAS DECIDED THAT MONDAY WOULD BE FINE. DURING THE INITIAL PHONE CALL SHE WAS QUOTED EXACTLY WHAT THE PRICE WOULD BE TO REMOVE HER FAILED PUMP AND INSTALL A NEW ONE. SHE AGREED AND REQUESTED THE SERVICE CALL. ON MONDAY MORNING OUR SERVICE TECH CALLED HER TO SET UP A TIME THAT WAS CONVENIENT FOR HER TO REPLACE THE ... read more
Mixed feelings on this company and using them. I have no doubt the final product will work well and the actual people that installed the system were very good... but I had a bad experience with the owner. The workers broke a pipe while installing the system. Now to be fair to this company, the pipe was old and probably broke from the vibration of the jackhammers when removing the concrete. What shocked me was how rude the owner was when I called. He was a jerk to me when I told him what happened and said that if I had read m... read more

ON 10-15-07, WE DID INSTALL A DRAIN TILE & SUMP PUMP SYSTEM IN THIS MEMBER'S HOME. DURING HIS INITIAL CALL TO OUR OFFICE, HE EXPLAINED HE HAD AN OLDER HOME, BUILT IN 1919. DURING THE INSTALLATION WE HELPED HIM OUT BY MOVING THE SINK IN THE BASEMENT. WE DISCOVERED ONE OF THE PIPES THAT WERE ATTACHED TO THE SINK WAS ROTTEN AND RUSTY AND IT FELL APART. THE MEMBER WANTED TO KNOW IF WE WERE GOING TO FIX IT. IF WE WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE BROKEN PIPE, WE WOULD HAVE GLADLY MADE THE REPAIRS. I SAID NO, IT WAS A PREEXISTING PROBLEM THAT... read more
As mentioned on their internal survey, there were several problems that we had: 1.the amount of wall they cut to put the drain tile in was "too aggressive." Even after another $3000+ worth of repairs, everything is not close to where it was before they came in. 2. The information I was told from the sales rep differed from what the foreman actually did. Instead of replacing grass where they cut through for the extension, they simply "fold it over." 3. One thing to be careful about: the foremen on the job only are there for d... read more

STANDARD WATER CONTROL HAS BEEN IN BUSINESS SINCE 1977 AND HAVE SOLVED OVER 18,000 WATER PROBLEMS. WE WORK HARD TO COMMUNICATE WITH OUR CUSTOMERS TO GIVE THEM AS MUCH INFORMATION AS WE CAN IN ADVANCE OF THE JOB START (VIDEOS, DVD’S, REFERENCES, PREPARATION LETTERS). THE CONTRACTS ARE WRITTEN IN CLEAR TERMS. EVEN WITH ALL THAT, IT’S POSSIBLE TO HAVE A MISUNDERSTANDING SUCH AS WE NO LONGER ACCEPT AM EXP, WHICH WAS STILL ON OUR WEBSITE.
