I called to have somebody come out and bid a sump pump discharge diversion and glass block window being installed and woman with an accent that couldnt listen to and or understand where Des Moines Iowa was caused me to get frustrated to the point where i hung up and called another plumber nothing
Business response:
We're very sorry to hear you feel that way. As an employer, we always try to be fair in our hiring practices and go out of our way to treat everyone equally. The lady you spoke with doesn't normally answer the phone but was filling in during a time of extremely high call volume. We try to make sure everyone who comes in contact with our customers is well trained and knowledgeable. For those new to our country, that training takes a bit more time and effort on everyone's part. For future reference, you can always leave a mess... read more
We had water in the unfinished part of our basement. We called Standard Water Control and told them it only happens occasionally and not when it rains. They came out and told us we needed a sump pump and drain tile. This would cost $5,440. Then we would need someone to come out and remove shelves in the closet and all trim where drain will be installed plus take some tile out of the basement bathroom. This cost $500.00. Then this needed to be re-placed - however he could not replace the tile - we still need a tile person to ... read more

We did, in fact, install a drain tile system in this member’s home and it is working as it should. Our records indicate this member first contacted us in July of 2011 regarding their water problem. We sent Kevin out to the home on August 2, 2011. The homeowner showed Kevin the problem area near an outside block wall. Our representative gave the homeowner a number of options and the homeowner chose the drain tile system. We train our people to make sure they talk about possible options in order to avoid problems like this one... read more
I called the folks at Standard Water Control as they had initially installed the drain tile and sump pumps in my house before I bought the house in July 2012. The drain tile was installed in 1997 along with the original sump pump. The back-up sump pump was installed in 2004. I replaced the back-up sump pump batteries last fall. I ended up replacing the original sump pump myself with phone help from the employees at Standard Water Control. I did buy a new sump pump onsite for $320 and found that the price is about twice what ... read more
Poorly. I called after we found some water in our basement near our fireplace. I spoke with a lady who took my name and number. A serviceman called me back about half an hour later. I explained the situation and he said he would call when he got back to the office to set-up a time for an estimate. I never heard back from him. My husband called them again a few days later. This time we never made it past the initial receptionist. After he explained the situation, she essentially said that the job would not be worth their time... read more

After checking our records, I discovered we have never done any work for this member but she did call back on March 7th, 2011 regarding water issues in the basement. At that time the homeowners decided they would try sealing some cracks and other options. On April 29th, 2013 this member spoke again to one of our Representatives and explained she had a drain tile system installed but was getting water at the base of the chimney. At this point the members experience and our memory of the situation diverge rather significantly.... read more

Business response:
Thank you for your kind words about Standard Water Control! It makes us feel good to know we've done a good job for you. Best Wishes, Mike Hogenson President, Standard Water Control Systems, Inc.
We contacted Standard Water to give us a bid for a leaky basement problem that we had. We have an existing drain tile system that was installed when the house was built. When the salesperson showed up he went right into measuring our basement for new drain tile and started trying to convince us that old drain tile is ALWAYS installed incorrectly and that it needed to be replaced. Not ever looking at the source of the problem to see if there was an simpler fix...just scare tactics. Fortunately, I had already contacted Jim C f... read more

First just let me say thank you for letting us into your home to bid on your project. Second, I’m sorry for the poor experience you had with us. I am thankful you offered your thoughts on Angie's List. This gives us an opportunity to respond in a number of ways; 1. we get to apologize and 2. we get to talk about this situation in our sales meetings to better equip our people to communicate effectively with homeowners so a situation like this won’t occur again. This is how we learn and improve. We take our reputation very ser... read more
They we quick to respond to the call to look at the project. The estimate was accepted and work was scheduled for the following week. Due to a number of emergencies they had to keep rescheduling the job for almost two weeks, this was not a big deal as I am retired and home most of the time. Someone under estimated the amount time it would take to do the drain tile system because they did not start until after lunch and did not finish until 9:30 that evening. Installation of the 4glass block windows was done several days late... read more
Everything went well. They showed us how to work the sump pump, and they cleaned up after themselves. My only issue is that they never came to the house to inspect some wet spots that I noticed after the job. They merely told me over the phone that the wet spots were normal because I have a damp basement. They installed a sump pump system and drainage tile.
Business response:
On 5/8/12 we installed a draintile system for this member and all went well. On 5/28/12 the member called our office with questions regarding damp spots in the new cement. I asked if there was any actual water and the member said no. I explained it takes several weeks for the concrete to fully cure and that he may see some discoloration for that period of time. I asked the member to keep an eye on it and call if there were any further problems and if so we would be more than willing to come out and assist them. As of Decembe... read more
I've used them before & had good results. This time I just wanted to update the old sump pump I have for peace of mind. We set up Friday Sept. 7 between 1-3 as the time, so I stayed home from work. Nobody showed up & nobody called. It wasn't until I contacted them to complain a few days later (I waited to see if they'd acknowledge me & they didn't, so will never call them again) that they called me w/a half-assed attempt to reschedule. In the meantime I found someone cheaper who will probably show up to actually do the job. ... read more

We did miss our appointment and for that I truly apologize to this member. I even offered to give this member a $100.00 discount for his inconvenience. On September 5th this member sent us an email stating when he bought his house for years ago his home inspector suggested he keep an eye on the pump considering Standard installed it in 1985 (which is a good life for a pump). The member stated we had done some other work for him and he was very satisfied and wanted us to replace the pump. He also said when he plugged the pump... read more
