In July we had drain-tile and radon mitigation scheduled with Standard for completion in January of 2015 and were really looking forward to this work being done especially because of the health issues associated with high radon levels. After getting several bids, we chose Standard for a number of reasons. They had a ton of great reviews by Angie's List users. After watching all of their online videos and reading all of their material they left us with the impression that they'd do the best quality job out of everyone we look... read more

Business response:

This member initially contacted us in September of 2013 for an estimate on radon mitigation and basement waterproofing. After many months of phone calls and discussions -- along with an extra visit to the home by Gary in July, 2014 -- the member scheduled work for January 15th, 2015. He signed the contracts for drain tile & radon mitigation on August 11th, 2014 and mailed them in. We understand unexpected things occur. And when this member called us in November, 2014 to ask if he could be released from the contract he signed... read more

unknown to busy--would not come out to give a estimate--booked up till april

Business response:

We are a bit confused with this review. We have absolutely no record of any communication with this member -- which is highly unusual. And, while we do have quite a number of jobs pending, we're still giving estimates every day. If this member wishes, we would be more than happy to send someone to the home right away.

After a month of wet vacuuming the basement, due to record rainfalls, we needed help. We found Standard and another company on Angie's List. We also called a local company that we had seen a lot of signs for, in the yards of people, whom I assume had used their service. Standard, who came to the house last, came out the best in their presentation of what the would do, and how they would do it. Downside, they had the highest in price by about 10%, and were about seven weeks out on starting work. The other company from your li... read more

The sump pump system that Standard installed is non-functional and we have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. This is the worst company we have ever dealt with. The salesman told us that the Standard sump pump would resolve the problem of water in our heat ducts as we live in a townhouse built on a slab and get water in the ducts in the springtime when the snow melts and we trusted him. However, this first spring after installation we still had water in the heat ducts. So, we called Standard and requested a s... read more

Business response:

When our salesperson, Todd, was out to the home he found the members heat ducts were filling with water. He went over the options with included an entire drain tile system and new heat ducts that would cost in excess of $20,000. As this is a finished home the owner would also have to move out during installation and deal with remodeling costs afterward that could run another $30,000. Understandably the member wanted less expensive options, so our salesperson suggested a double deep basin next to the furnace in an attempt to ... read more

Sump pump in basement. The work itself was done to satisfaction. However, communication was lacking and coming from several sources. Due to the lack of reliable communication, a job that was supposed to be done around 10 am was done at 630 in the evening. I used Standard Water Control Systems.

Estimate and puctuality was very good. Details on the process were sketchy, for example, the individual who gave quote stated that the job would take three days (Start Thursday end on Saturday). As luck would have it,the only opening wason the Thursday before Labor Day and no one planned to work on Saturday to repour the cement until the following Tuesday. Existing heat registers were clearly marked as a template (carpet was being reinstalled), Standard Water placed new transit registers andoff by as much as 6" and used a la... read more

As the member stated this was a sizable job. Replacing the drain tile system and sub slab HVAC duct work below the floor is a tremendous undertaking. This particular job required removing and replacing approximately 217 feet of drain tile and duct work from below the floor. The new drain tile is placed deep below the duct work to prevent water from getting to the duct work. This required removing a great deal of dirt and concrete, creating a trench(es) of approximately 217 lineal feet, 2 or more feet in width and 2 to 4 feet... read more

They keep the property clean and did not damage the grass. They had the drain tile, sump pump, vapor barrier and windows done in one day! they came back the next day to pour the cement to cover the drain tile. They are very booked with contracts so they couldn't get to my contract for a couple of months, but they came on the date scheduled and was done as expected. They guarantee a dry basement for the life of the foundation even to new owners. Added drain tile to current basement, sump pump, water vapor barrier on walls and... read more

I contracted Standard Water Control to solve an issue with moisture and dampness in the foundation block of my newly purchased home. I expressed my clear goals as wanting to rid the foundation block of dampness, wanting to reduce musty smells pervading from the wet block and to relieve water pressure on the block to help prevent future movement of the block.. A drain tile and sump pump system was proposed as a solution. They finished the job last week and it rained a few days later. The bill was $3800+ and the walls were wet... read more

Business response:

We take our reputation very seriously and do everything we can to make the homeowner comfortable using Standard Water. Overwhelmingly, our reviews are positive and our awards for customer service speak for themselves. I am thankful you offered your thoughts on Angies List. This gives us an opportunity to review the way our sales people communicate with homeowners to help them clearly understand what a waterproofing system can and cannot do. To that point, there are no waterproofing systems, installed on the interior of the h... read more
