My family pulled together and we drove my daughter 357 miles, 6 hours straight to get her there. Not 5 hrs into the facility she was using the phone and broke down the members/counselors into allowing her to leave. When I was told she would be placed in the behavioral unit, since shes a runner and needed psychiatric help also. I was told she would NOT be able to contact anyone, no phones for 14 days. Camp Recovery did not help my husband. Instead our life became a nightmare. The first week he was there, he was incoherent due to the detoxing process. I understand that this needs to be done, however he was not able to function. Possibly over medicated. So the first week was a waste. He was not suppose to have any electronics what so ever. I'm not convinced that The Camp has the best juvenile program; I think I'd be more apt to place my child in a school/rehab environment. On the flip side, two of my family members have completed rehab periods at The Camp's adult program and have come away with the tools they needed to begin their recovery journeys. A rehab center is not a "one stop" fix it program, but rather a respite from the insanity of addiction. My partner was recently an inpatient at The Camp in Scotts Valley to receive treatment for alcohol dependence. The "treatment" and "care" she received at the facility were so substandard that she ended up leaving against medical advice and entering another local facility to continue her care, even though this meant risking relapse and having to pay extensive out-of-pocket medical fees. Upon her admission, she was assigned a case manager/counselor who was on vacation. She thus got no personalized treatment for a full 7 days... read more

Lack of follow up, follow through, communication and supervision were the norm for my friend who's child attended this rehab for 34 days. While part of Aspen Corp., The Camp is way below the caliber needed and promised for minor child substance addiction issues. The counselors are caring, however, once the child figured out that they just had to tough it out until the 30 days were through....well, that was the end of recovery for them.
