Heads up. Outsiders not welcome. Upon attempting driving to the Dunes House, I was abruptly stopped by the sea pines gate keeper and told it is "for residents only". The food may be great, the service unmatched, the ambiance soothing, but this cat will never know, and unless you are staying in a Palmetto Dunes place, neither will you.

Hello Dave. You can stop by the Welcome Center to receive a pass to enter the North Gate in Palmetto Dunes if you say that you are going to dine at the Dunes House. Yes, the restaurant is located beyond a security gate, but that is mainly to offer the residence privacy and also to keep guests from utilizing the limited spaces for beach parking. We apologize for the inconvenience that this caused, but hopefully you give it another shot.
Unfortunately, this restaurant is only open to certain people that live nearby. So, although it is listed as a restaurant open to anyone, that is not correct. It is private use only. So I was not able to enjoy the food or even get as far as the restaurant parking lot, lol.
Great atmosphere and ambience definitely come here for the fun and great weight staff but food's pretty decent

Sitting outside with the beach as my backdrop eating good food and sipping on a refreshing strawberry lemonade makes a spectacular day for me. Service is great

The Dunes House, Hilton Head Island, SC Date of Visit: April 27th, 2024 A semi private restaurant on the beach in Hilton Head Island, sound great, so what could go wrong, well sadly the food ATMOSPHERE/DECO Located in Palmetto Dunes resort on Hilton Head Island, the restaurant is on the beach with great ocean views. Perfect spot for a quick lunch/snack or if you're just looking for a quick drink to take back to the beach. I've had many Lava flows and pina coladas this summer and the past and my favorite drink has to be the Java flow. Tastes like a pina colada with espresso, but it works. I've also had lunch here where I've gotten the grilled ahi tuna wrap. I really enjoyed this but I wish the ahi tuna could be raw rather than grilled. Also have had the bratwurst which I also really enjoyed. Service is fast and friendly!
The Dunes House has great outdoor seating and a good variety of lunch options. Service was great and so was my shrimp quesadilla :)
