Staff is not very helpful and rude. My wife just joined the Edge gym in Hamden. This was like the third time she went there and she was having problems with a particular machine and asked one of the staff if he could simply show her how it worked. He refused to take the two minutes it would have taken to help her, and told her she needed to pay $200.00 for a trainer before she could get help understanding the machine. This is a very terrible gym. I'm trying to cancel the member ship because I have to go away for college and I have to send all of these personal documents about my acceptance and new address to them just so I can have a cancellation period. On top of that, I still have to pay the payment that is due during that 30 day cancellation period. Also, the company that deals with the billing has terrible customer service. AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE promised a 10 day pass deal would last or a certain length of time but changed their mind half way through dont respond to customer emails rude and ignorant
If I could do a zero, or negative I would. ABC Financial services contract that is impossible to exit. My sister has ovarian cancer and still they would not cancel unless we sent a note from the doctor, on hospital letter head. Really!! For a gym membership!!! I asked, what if/when she dies....then the estate manager will have to send in documentation.!!! Really for a gym membership? what if we just stop paying?...then you invite law suit and more problems!!! They are evil. Don't sign any contracts.
You cant cancel your membership if you move. I moved from Hamden to Westbrook, and it was not "far" enough away for them to allow me to cancel, on top of it to cancel your membership (once the year is up) is ridiculous you have to send a letter in.
I had trouble choosing between 2 or 3 stars but because of recent developments I went with 2. You have to give them credit as far as cleanliness and equipment they are between 4 and 5 stars. But this is a trainer friendly gym which means making money off of 1 on 1 sessions and "extra " classes are top priority. I always feel bad when people spend loads of their hard earned money for a trainer when all they needed was a gym partner. Anyways, I digress. If you have to go between the hours of 4 and 8 pm, choose a different gym, you can't find parking, you can't find room on the turf and you can't get on the machine you want. If you have to go at 5 am, this is the gym to choose.
I'm just going to start off this with saying this sucks. I understand how the young and fit staff is the perfect image for the edge but they're not professional or mature at all. Don't get me wrong it's a great place to have a work out but is given a bad environment by everyone's attitude and lack of maturity. First off I'll start by saying this is a great gym. It's beautiful and staff is nice. That being said my experience trying to cancel my membership is God aweful. I was lied to, when I signed up I had specifically asked if I would be able to cancel at anytime. I told them the story of how difficult it was for me to cancel my la fitness membership and I didn't want that again.
